Blumhouse is gearing up for its “Halfway To Halloween” series of theatrical re-releases from its library. This year they’ve got M3GAN (April 30), Annabelle (May 7) and Ma (May 14) lined up. To attract attention they’ve announced a little promotional gimmick…in the age of chatbots it only makes sense to let people talk to the real M3GAN.
There’s one problem, however. M3GAN refuses to appear just anywhere, or talk to any slob. Please. You wanna talk to M3GAN? YOU gotta come to HER. And the only place she’ll agree to do it in…is her own movie. Talk about a diva.
Apparently if you go to this M3GAN rescreening on April 30, open your phone to Instagram and DM M3GAN’s account, she will answer back, but she’ll somehow know if you’re not watching her movie (M3GAN has powers no one knows of). Assuming you are, you won’t just be able to chat with M3GAN, but you’ll receive “never-before-seen content, trivia, and behind the scenes info on the film in real time.”
But wait a minute. Isn’t opening your phone in a crowded movie theater something you’re…not supposed to do? Didn’t an M&M warn us about that or something? Well, that’s what makes it so diabolical, and something only M3GAN could think up. She WANTS you to ruin the experience for others with your glowing screen. It’s a plot, mwahaha!
The original M3GAN (now semi-interactive) returns for one night on April 30, followed by the release of M3GAN 2.0 on June 27.
