Korean OTT platform Coupang Play and ENA have announced a new drama in the works called UDT – Our Neighborhood Commando (working title). Contrary to its name, the show will be about a group of people uninterested in protecting the country or peace at large. Instead, this unique team of military reserves will join forces to keep their family and neighborhood safe, resulting in plenty of fun operations and hijinks.
Yoon Kye-sang (The Frog) stars as Choi Kang, a former JDD special forces member turned insurance investigator. Despite his background, he is known around town as the man who did not serve in the army and lives an ordinary life as a civilian. While his motives to hide his military training are unclear, hopefully muscle memory will kick in when the time calls for it.
Similarly, Jin Seon-kyu (The Uncanny Counter 2) plays former HID counter-terrorism operative Kwak Byeong-nam who has left his action-packed days behind and currently runs a small hardware-convenience store. He also happens to be the president of their neighborhood youth association, which explains his interest in keeping the peace around their town.
In addition to the two former military officers, the neighborhood special forces will include Kim Ji-hyun (The Auditors) as supermarket owner Jung Nam-yeon, Go Kyu-pil (The Fiery Priest 2) as martial arts trainer Lee Yong-hee, and Lee Jung-ha (Good Boy) as Seoul University engineering student Park Jung-hwan. They definitely make for a unique spread of personalities from ex-special forces to Seoul University student, but these five individuals have one thing in common: no one messes with their neighborhood.
Directed by PD Jo Woong (A Virtuous Business) and written by Kim Sang-yoon with screenwriter Ban Kiri (Missing – The Other Side 2) as the creator, Coupang Play and ENA’s UDT – Our Neighborhood Commando) begins filming this month and will be released in the latter half of 2025.
