The August 2025 Oni Press solicitations reveal a publisher doubling down on its strengths: genre experimentation, cult IP reinventions, and prestige creator-driven storytelling. With nods to vintage EC Comics, multiversal mayhem, and hard-hitting satire, the lineup offers readers horror with heart, humor with bite, and sci-fi with scale.
Oni’s revival of the EC brand continues to anchor its publishing slate. Cruel Universe 2 #1 launches a new 12-issue maxi-series blending nihilistic space horror with pulpy anthology roots. The creative team includes names like Charlie Adlard, Ann Nocenti, and Greg Pak, promising cerebral shocks across time and space. Catacomb of Torment #2 and Blood Type #3 further explore body horror, supernatural tension, and doomed protagonists in tales that echo EC’s dark traditions while introducing modern narrative complexity.
Each issue also includes a remastered EC classic, underscoring the publisher’s commitment to legacy preservation alongside new experimentation.
Beyond EC, Oni continues its summer of fear. Cemetery Kids Run Rabid expands the cyber-horror mythology introduced in Cemetery Kids Don’t Die, blurring digital nightmares with real-world trauma. Dark Regards #4 wraps its metal-fueled horror-comedy in an apocalyptic crescendo, and Mine Is A Long, Lonesome Grave sets a gritty revenge horror in rural Appalachia.
Elsewhere, Benjamin #3 and Out of Alcatraz delve into existential dread and historical fiction, using surrealism and speculative twists to question identity and mortality.
On the lighter side, Oni balances its dread with beloved franchises. Adventure Time: The Bubbline College Special explores alternate-universe romance in a giant-sized one-shot. Biker Mice from Mars #3 ramps up its high-octane throwback energy with classic villains and monster mayhem. Rick and Morty vs. The Universe #2 continues its chaotic cosmic event, with a Summer-centric spin-off, Summer of Love, adding character depth to the absurdity.
Oni also commemorates anniversaries and milestones with deluxe editions, including Rick and Morty 10th Anniversary Omnibus Vol. 1-2, Wet Moon 20th Anniversary Omnibus Vol. 3, and The Complete Courtney Crumrin Vol. 1.
Graphic novels and prestige-format entries expand Oni’s voice-driven work. The Sixth Gun: Battle for the Six #2 revisits supernatural Westerns. A Quick & Easy Guide to Healthy Relationships offers practical comics-based education. Quincredible: A Better World follows a teen hero navigating systemic injustice, and Mine Is A Long, Lonesome Grave continues Oni’s commitment to creator-owned horror with social commentary.
Books like The Adventure Time Compendium Vol. 3, Out of Alcatraz, and Quincredible reinforce the company’s interest in genre-spanning stories told with sincerity and edge.
Oni Press’ August 2025 lineup blends pulp and prestige, legacy and innovation. Whether you seek unsettling horror, nostalgic joy, or reflective storytelling, this month’s slate delivers. As mainstream comics lean into multiverses and event tie-ins, Oni carves out its own lane—with brains, guts, and heart.

“I’m saying all of that was never real in the first place. It is not that you will cease to exist, Marcus, it is that you never really existed in the first place. That life was always an illusion. Your dreams were always temporary.
But you know, let’s be honest, that’s how it is for most people, when you get right down to it. You think you have this future. You think you have this past. But everything is always going away. Everything is always in the process of coming to nothing. But what I’m telling you, Marcus, is that I am different. For some cosmic reasons impossible to understand, I matter. I have a chance to save the universe . . . and you have a chance to save me. That is more—so much more—than most people ever get.” —Benjamin J. Carp, novelist (Deceased. Robot? Ghost? Alien?)
From Philip K. Award–winning writer Ben H. Winters (EC’s Cruel Universe) and extraordinary artist Leomacs (Basketful of Heads), the prestige-format examination of a dead science-fiction icon’s unexpected return to Earth concludes with a mind-bending meditation of existence itself.

Talk about pressure! Dark Regards comes to its devilish denouement!
