SUMMARY: The text was not cryptic. It was plain. It said: “Your husband’s mistress works in your office.”
In “VIP “, Na Jeong-seon is the highest-ranking employee on the VIP Management Team for Sung Un Department Store. The only employee higher than her is her husband, Park Seong-joon, the head of the Team. Like most married couples – or at least the woman in the couple – Na Jeong-seon wants to start having a family. So does her mother-in-law. The pressure is on! But it’s easy pressure because she’s very much in love with HER husband and believes he loves only HER.
One night she left work, but her husband remained in the office. He said he’d be home later. She smiled that he would be there later because she had planned a sumptuous dinner and hoped that their night would end in hot passion. Na Jeong-seon went home, prepared the meal, dressed in sexy lingerie, and someone came to the door. She excitedly ran to the door, thinking it was Park Seong-joon. It turned out to be her mother-in-law.
Not the person you want to open the door to when you’re dressed in lingerie. UUGG!! Talk about bad timing. She quickly sent her husband a text message telling him his mother had shown up. He left the office and rushed home, but when he got there, his mother had left. By that time, Na Jeong-seon had covered up her sexy garments with a modest robe. If your mother-in-law drops by unexpectedly, it is a TOTAL MOOD KILLER! Park Seong-joon climbed into bed and went straight to sleep. So much for a wild night of passion.
Na Jeong-seon stared at her husband, who was sleeping soundly, and was about to climb into bed next to him when she received a text message. It said: “Your husband’s mistress works in your office.” WHAT??!! Is this a prank? A nasty prank? It’s certainly not funny!! But suddenly it didn’t seem as if her husband was asleep because he was tired. That suspicious text message aroused her suspicion.
Did Park Seong-joon go to sleep right away because he’s “disinterested” in her? She couldn’t help herself, so she picked up her husband’s phone and tried to check his text messages. But she couldn’t because she didn’t know his password. Then she tried calling the number the text came from. The person who answered sounded very annoyed. It was late at night, and they wanted to know why somebody was disturbing them. The following morning, when they were driving into work together, Na Jeong-seo began to gently “probe” her husband, asking him questions like … “Do you still feel the same way about me that you did the day you proposed?” Casual questions like that.
She didn’t want to make herself look obvious and behave like an angry, jealous wife. Especially when she didn’t even know if the message was true. Of course, she doesn’t want to believe it. But she’s not stupid enough to ignore it! But to think that it’s someone she works with and sees each day. She doesn’t mistreat any of them. They all smile at her and seem to like her as a boss.
Admittedly, all of the women in the office – Lee Hyeon-ah, Song Mi-na, and On Yoo-ri – are very attractive and might be a temptation for her husband. But she would have never even suspected them of doing such a thing IF she hadn’t received that text message. There’s even Ma Sang-woo, a guy who is part of the team. Her husband’s “mistress” is a guy? Hey! He’s attractive too!
That blasted text message is driving Na Jeong-seo crazy. WHOEVER IT IS … that person should get their own husband. GRRR …!! WHOEVER IT IS … they don’t deserve all of her anger. Her husband should stop being a dirty sneak and come clean! What did she do to deserve this treatment? She was happy. Doesn’t she have a right to be happy? How dare Park Seong-joon let his mistress ruin their marriage! IF … if he has a mistress. Does he? It must be true. Why would someone want to deceive her? Does she have an enemy? It’s not like she’s a VIP.
My personal rating is the same as Viki.
“VIP” hooked me right at the end of the first episode. The main character’s husband is the head of the VIP Management Team. She works as the team manager, and the team consists of very attractive women. As her husband lies in their bed sleeping soundly and she gets ready to go to sleep as well, she receives a text message: “Your husband’s mistress works in your office.” I’m hooked! I’m ready to expose the mistress, and when I do, it’s … OFF WITH HER HEAD AND THE HUSBAND’S HEAD TOO!!
