Uhm Jung-hwa, Song Seung-heon
Romantic comedy My Golden Star has announced its cast, reuniting Uhm Jung-hwa (Doctor Cha) and Song Seung-heon (Player 2 – Master of Swindlers) after ten years since their film Wonderful Nightmare. The show revolves around two people both trying to reclaim their former glory, and promises plenty of laughs along the way.
Uhm Jung-hwa stars as Bong Chung-ja, an ordinary middle-aged woman who wakes up one day with no memories of the last 25 years. Chung-ja, though, also goes by another name: top actress Im Se-ra. She disappeared from the limelight suddenly after sweeping the nation by storm, and now Chung-ja wants to return to the shiny seat she once held. Despite the resume gap, lack of memories, and older appearance, Chung-ja dreams of her comeback and sets out anew.
Opposite Chung-ja is police detective Dokgo Cheol played by Song Seung-heon. Once a promising violent crimes detective, Cheol fell from grace after a certain incident and was demoted to the traffic bureau. He hopes to transfer back to his old department, and in order to do so, he goes undercover as Chung-ja’s manager to figure out if she really is the missing actress.
Joining the leads is Lee El (When the Stars Gossip) as global star Go Hee-young. When Se-ra was around, Hee-young was relegated to supporting roles, forever stuck in her shadow. However, once she vanished, Hee-young stepped in to take over and became the lead. Just as everything seemed perfect, she hears rumors of Se-ra’s return and starts to worry.
Rounding out the cast as entertainment company CEO Kang Doo-won is Oh Dae-hwan (Unmasked). He started off as Se-ra’s road manager in the past, but after surviving the industry for 25 years, he found success. Despite his new title, once Se-ra appears before him, Doo-won returns to his old self, constantly checking her mood.
Directed by PD Choi Young-hoon (Pandora: Beneath the Paradise, One the Woman) with scripts written by Park Ji-ha (Miss Night and Day), My Golden Star has begun filming and plans to air in the second half of 2025.
