The summer will be hotter than ever thanks to the flames of wreckage caused by the Twisted Metal tournament. Peacock revealed today that the second season of the video game adaption will hit its servers at the end of July. Don’t just take our word for it, watch this intentionally slow reveal:
Behold the first apperance of Calypso, the overdramatic host of the tournament! And that faraway view is about all you get, besides a few quick action shots of cars flipping over and blowing up. There is probably a beefier trailer on the way between now and July.
That’s correct…there will be actual car combat, and lots of it, in the second season! The first season did not have much of what the brand is known for…it was about setting up who the characters were, their motivations and backstories. We met John Doe (yeah, he doesn’t know his name), a professional delivery driver in a loony post-apocalyptic America who is given his most dangerous assignment yet, but promised a safe place to live if he succeeds. Along his route John picks up Quiet, who at first lives up to that name before becoming quite talkative a couple episodes later. Together they must survive many hazards including multiple run-ins with Sweet Tooth, the crazy clown and Twisted Metal icon.
Season One ended with John accomplishing his mission, but getting tricked in the process — he didn’t really get what he wanted. Turns out the REAL way to achieve your dreams is to enter a dangerous demolition derby tournament and bash other cars around to be the last one standing.
Twisted Metal stars Anthony Mackie as John, Stephanie Beatriz as Quiet, Will Arnett and Samoa Joe in a dual role as Sweet Tooth (SJ provides the body, Arnett provides the voice). Season Two will introduce Anthony Carrigan as Calypso, among others. The series’ second season begins July 31 on Peacock.
