SBS’s highly anticipated new Friday-Saturday drama Try: Miracle in Us has officially locked in its premiere date on July 25, and with it comes the unveiling of the drama’s script reading session, where an electrifying wave of youthful passion and chemistry lit up the room, raising expectations for a heartwarming, high-energy summer series.
This fresh and uplifting sports drama follows the comedic yet heartfelt journey of Joo Ga-ram, a former rugby star whose career took a nosedive after a doping scandal. Now trying to rebuild his life, he finds himself coaching the bottom-ranked rugby team of Hanyang Physical Education High School. What unfolds is a riotous, emotionally charged race toward redemption and victory at the National Sports Festival. The show promises to deliver a winning blend of sports grit, offbeat humor, and touching moments of growth and teamwork.
At the helm of the production is director Jang Young-seok, acclaimed for co-directing Taxi Driver 2, and writer Im Jin-ah, who won top honors at the SBS Cultural Foundation’s screenwriting contest. This powerful creative duo is joined by a stellar cast headlined by Yoon Kye-sang as Joo Ga-ram, Im Se-mi as Bae Ji-ji, and Kim Yo-han as Yoon Sung-joon, each bringing their distinct flair, charm, and emotional depth to their roles.
The recently revealed script reading scene set the tone for what’s to come, with the entire ensemble—veterans and rising stars alike—displaying lively synergy and emotional range. The room buzzed with energy as key cast members, including Gil Hae Yeon, Kim Min Sang, Jang Hyuk Jin, Lee Sung Wook, Jung Soon Won, Song Young Gyu, Park Jeong Yeon, Kim Yi Jun, and many more, threw themselves into their roles with passion and humor.
Yoon Kye Sang, in particular, made a strong impression with his animated, witty portrayal of the unpredictable rookie coach Joo Ga-ram. Effortlessly bouncing between comedic timing and authoritative charisma, Yoon had the cast and crew in stitches with his delivery of the line, “The coach is here,” and a pitch-perfect, comical bark that had everyone cracking up. His character also shows deeper emotional resonance as he fiercely protects his team, signaling a multifaceted performance full of laughter and heart.
Im Se Mi also stood out with her commanding performance as Bae Ji-ji, a no-nonsense shooting coach and Joo Ga-ram’s fiery ex-girlfriend. Her voice alone shifted the mood in the room, and she embodied the spirit of an athlete who refuses to be broken by life’s obstacles. A particularly intense moment unfolded as her character confronted Joo Ga-ram, revealing her frustrations and emotional scars. Her performance highlighted her wide acting spectrum and emotional nuance, leaving many eager to see how their tangled relationship plays out on screen.
Meanwhile, Kim Yo Han brought raw sincerity and youthful determination to his role as Yoon Sung-joon, the third-year captain of the struggling rugby team. His scenes captured the tension of a young leader burdened with expectations and the desire to lift his team from rock bottom. The tension between him and his new coach, played by Yoon Kye-sang, particularly in a heated moment where he shouts, “Losing is just losing!” added emotional weight and depth to the scene. His transformation into a fiercely passionate student-athlete was a standout in the session.
Supporting actors, including Cho Han Gyeol, Kim Dan, Bae Myung Jin, Lee Ji Min, Sung Ji Young, Jung Kang Hee, Oh Soo Hye, Lee Seung Chul, and many more, helped breathe vibrant life into the world of Hanyang Physical Education High School. Their comic chemistry, bold interactions, and synchronized shouts of “Hanyang Physical Education High School!” added flavor and energy, teasing a tightly-knit team spirit that viewers will likely fall in love with.
The production team shared their excitement, stating, “From the very first table read, the cast brought their characters to life with incredible synergy and passion. This is more than a script—it’s a pulse-quickening experience. We’re confident Try will bring both roaring laughter and moments of heartfelt inspiration to viewers this summer.”
They continued, “Try: We Become a Miracle is not just about sports—it’s about rising from failure, building unlikely friendships, and discovering strength where you least expect it. We hope audiences will cheer for this team and laugh, cry, and grow with them.”
