REAL HISTORY TO HELP VIEWER APPRECIATE THE TRILOGY:

In Korean history, Yi Sun-sin was a legendary naval commander known for his strategic brilliance and the use of turtle ships (aka Geobukseon, Korean warships used during the Joseon Era against the Japanese naval forces). His military strategies helped defend ancient Korea against Japanese invasions during the late 16th century. His military record is impressive: 23 naval battles, undefeated, against overwhelming odds.

His most famous victory was the Battle of Myeongnyang. These were the odds: 13 turtle ships repelled 130 (or 330?) Japanese ships. Sadly, Yi Sun-sin was killed by a stray bullet during the Battle of Noryang, the final major battle of the Imjin War in 1598. He remains one of Korea’s most revered historical figures, celebrated for his leadership, tactical brilliance, and unwavering dedication to his country.
