If it feels like you only got half a season of Squid Game last December, that’s because you did. Sure, it’s billed as two separate seasons, but we now know it’s one complete story with a cliffhanger in the middle. Both seasons were filmed in succession, and that’s why Season 3 is following Season 2 in just six months, instead of three years.
The teaser Netflix put out today is the first footage of Season 3 they’ve publicly shown beyond the little snip at the end of Season 2. It begins with the guards carrying a coffin into the main dorm, then lifting the lid to reveal….Gi-hun?? Yeah right. Though it’d make sense for Front Man to kill him at that point, Gi-hun’s plot armor is just too powerful. Also, he appears lots of times throughout the trailer.
The third and final season follows Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) after losing his best friend in the game and being driven to utter despair by The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who was hiding his true identity to infiltrate the game. Gi-hun persists with his goal to put an end to the game, while the Front Man continues onto his next move and the surviving players’ choices will lead to graver consequences with each round. The world eagerly awaits to see the grand finale written and directed by Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who has vowed to bring the epic story to its deserved closure. Can we hope for humanity in the cruelest of realities? Fans all over the world are counting the days until the final answer is revealed.
This is the first glimpse we got of some new games…like a gumball machine OF DEATH (we’re assuming the death part) and something that requires them to hand out red and blue boxes. The players oughta stage a revolution…only they already tried that. What makes Season 3 the most interesting is that I thought they’d save the revolt for the end. They can’t repeat it twice, so how does this really wrap up?
Oh yeah, and if you’re wondering why there’s a baby crying at the end…think about it for a second. One of the contestants is very pregnant. Squid Game returns for its resolution June 27.
