The promotions for JTBC’s action-comedy Good Boy is in full swing, gracing us with a new teaser, stills, and character posters. About a special police unit made up of former medalists who were once hailed as heroes, boxer-turned-detective Park Bo-gum (When Life Gives You Tangerines) joins as the trouble-making member in this eclectic group of familiar faces.
Leading the special unit is Heo Sung-tae (Player 2 – Master of Swindlers) as bronze wrestler Go Man-shik. He is in charge of cleaning up after the others, particularly Yoon Dong-joo (Park Bo-gum) who seems to always cause a mess. At least Dong-joo has the decency to look apologetic as Man-shik glares at him, but then again, the young detective also throws a fake punch at his boss, signaling that their relationship is not the typical dynamic.
Not everyone, though, finds Dong-joo troublesome since bronze discus thrower Shin Jae-hong played by Tae Won-seok (Player 2 – Master of Swindlers) is grateful to have him on his side. On the other hand, silver fencer Kim Jong-hyeon played by Lee Sang-yi (Spice Up Our Love) is Dong-joo’s rival and hates even his smile, but that does not stop Dong-joo from trying to win over the stubborn fencer with his indomitable charm.
As the sole woman on the team, Kim So-hyun (Serendipity’s Embrace) plays gold shooter Ji Hanna who also happens to be Dong-joo’s first and last love. She wonders if he still likes her, and while the feeling may not have been mutual at the start, something blossoms between them as Hanna questions her sanity in front of Dong-joo’s smile.
Last but not least, Yoon Dong-joo is a gold medalist boxer with nothing to be ashamed of, and whoever steps into the ring – whether that be an opponent or a suspect – he will bring them down. While the spotlight might be gone, the round is not over yet, which means bad guy Oh Jung-se (When Life Gives You Tangerines) won’t be able to skirt the law for much longer.
Directed by PD Shim Na-yeon (The Good Bad Mother, Beyond Evil) with scripts written by Lee Dae-il (Chief of Staff, Life on Mars), JTBC’s Good Boy is slated for sixteen episodes and premieres May 31 in the Saturday-Sunday slot.
