KDramaHQ AdminMarch 29, 2025

“The Mimic” is a 2017 Korean movie based on a mythical tale, categorized as Fantasy, Supernatural, Horror, Thriller, and Suspense; and streaming on Viki.

SUMMARY: A little girl found wandering the the forest has a special ability to mimic the voices of the dead. This ability is used to lure people because they believe they are hearing the voices of their loved ones who have already entered the afterlife. Question: Is she good or is she evil?

But She’s Just a Little Girl

The Mimic” is a little girl who was found in the forest. It’s modern-day South Korea but the strange events that are occurring pertain to the ancient legend of the Jangsan Tiger.

Hee-Yeon is trying to care for her elderly mother. Even though Min-Ho, her husband, disagrees with her, they take her mother out of the hospital to take care of her at their home in the countryside. It’s her mother’s hometown. Hee-Yeon is hoping the familiar environment will help her mother heal. But most importantly, she hopes her mother will recall memories. At present, her mother isn’t even able to speak. She just stares blankly and if she is thinking of something, nobody knows.

Several years earlier, Hee-Yeon’s young son disappeared. He is a missing child, but since it has been so long, Min-Ho says that as parents, they need to accept in their minds that their son is dead. Hee-Yeon refuses to accept that. The day her son went missing, he was with his grandmother. Hee-Yeon believes the grandmother knows what happened but can’t tell her because she is incapacitated and unable to speak. But if the hometown environment can help cure her mother, perhaps she can get information about how her son disappeared that day.

Meanwhile, some kids in the neighborhood are looking for their lost dog. They heard their dog barking. They were sure of it. It sounded just like their dog. All of a sudden, they heard the children scream. Hee-Yeon and Min-Ho ran into the forest to see what might have happened. The children had found a cave with the skeletal remains. While in the forest, Hee-Yeon saw a little girl. But she had to leave her to check on the other children. She told the little girl to wait for her, and she’ll come back for her. The police are crawling all over the area as it is now a crime scene..

Hee-Yeon and Min-Ho cooperate with the police, and then she insists on going back to find the little girl. Her search was futile. It was like the little girl had vanished. But later that night, someone knocked on their door. It was the little girl. Instead of calling the police, Hee-Yeon chose to keep the girl and take care of her. Once again, Min-Ho, her husband, disagreed but she did not listen.

Strange things began to happen. Things that were difficult to explain. Especially the fact that people could hear the voices of their loved ones who had died. The longer the little girl stayed with them, the more strange things kept happening.

The police had a photograph of a little girl with an older man and asked Hee-Yeon if the girl in the photo was the little girl she saw. Hee-Yeon replied YES! An enthusiastic YES! She was positive that was the girl, same dress and everything! Then the detective told her that the photo was from the 1980s. That child had been missing for over 20 years.

Hee-Yeon is bewildered. How could this be?

Where to Watch

Viewership and Rating:

My personal rating is the same as the Viki viewers.

The Mimic” is like the typical horror K-drama. Meaning that it doesn’t frighten you or scare you out of your wits. This movie caught my attention because there was a creature that could mimic the voice of anybody, and the creature was in the form of a little innocent girl. Who would think she might be evil or could do you harm?
