The Divorce Insurance: Episodes 9-10

Following their abrupt dissolution, our divorce team scrambles to secure the future of their product, as well as exonerate one of their own from a frame-up.

EPISODES 9-10

We resume with Na-rae’s explanation that the team has been dissolved because the competing insurance company already has the approval to officially launch their own divorce insurance. Our team’s approval is on hold at the FSS, and even at that, their product is still in the test phase. They wonder how the competition developed and requested approval for their own insurance so quickly, and Jeon-man raises questions about a mole in their company. Na-rae cuts in to say the audit team will look into it, and when the audit team does look into it, they discover a data leak on Han-deul’s computer. Han-deul is suspended pending further investigation — and while the team trusts her, they’d need executive level access to view the CCTV footage and computer log in records that can prove her innocence.

Ki-joon approaches Na-rae for help since she’s a company exec, but her hands are tied. Why? It turns out she and her boss — the vice president — planned to steal the divorce insurance idea and launch it in China. Na-rae’s end goal was to advance her career and work her way up to become VP of the China branch. But there’s no honor among thieves, so the vice president sold the idea to the competition in Korea. Jeon-man overhears a conversation between Na-rae and the VP, and he’s disappointed she betrayed the team. But he’s non confrontational when he sees her afterwards. Instead, he advises her not to make choices that can worsen the situation, before telling her to hang in there and to follow her true feelings.

Na-rae uses her executive powers to access the login records and CCTV footage, and all roads lead to the VP as the mole. She tries to use this evidence as leverage to get him to stop the competition from launching, but the VP refuses to be threatened. He tells Na-rae she’s no different from him, and this hits her hard because she actually enjoyed working with the divorce team. Betrayal aside. After crying her eyes out, Na-rae comes clean to the divorce team about the plan to launch in China, and the part she unwittingly played in Han-deul’s frameup. It was her suggestion to use a TF team computer to send materials to China, but the VP used it to leak data to the competition.

After apologizing to Han-deul and the rest of the team, Na-rae gives them the CCTV footage and login records. Thanks to a photo from the vow renewal ceremony of the tiger couple from week 3, they’re able to prove Han-deul wasn’t in the office when her computer was used. Na-rae also meets the competition with proof of their collision with the VP, and they cancel the launch of their divorce insurance after she threatens to sue for IP infringement and other legalese. In the end, the audit team comes for the VP, Na-rae is suspended, Han-deul is off the hook, and our divorce team is back in business. Yay!

Our team’s next agenda is preventing a divorce between a client and his content creator wife. The wife manages every inch of her husband’s life to fit the standards she has curated on social media, and he feels suffocated. Han-deul is all for the divorce, but she goes along with the team’s plan to try talking to the couple. The husband tells Ki-joon that divorce is the answer because he’s no longer happy, and Ki-joon is reminded of his late sister who shared a similar sentiment. As for the wife, she tells Han-deul that she had a hard time getting pregnant and her husband took her on a trip to get her mind off it. She was really happy on the trip, and she started documenting their happy lives on social media because people’s envious comments make her feel better.

The wife doesn’t want a divorce, and she persuades her husband to attend couples therapy as suggested by the divorce team. The therapist ends the session by asking what they want from each other — and while the wife has a list of aesthetic things she wants to do, the husband has just one: spending a day together without phones. They try their best but struggle to get through the day, and they eventually explode at each other. Afterwards, they manage to patch things up. Somewhat. The situation still seems bleak, but they admit they never regretted their marriage. And they agree to give it their best regardless of whatever choice they make in the end.

Speaking of choices, Han-deul’s choice to get a divorce did not sit well with her parents. For two people who are stuck in a loveless marriage, Han-deul’s parents would rather she remains unhappily married than happily divorced. Following Ki-joon’s advice to end things well for the sake of oneself, Han-deul invites her ex-husband to a family gathering. Her parents assume she has decided to keep up the “married” act like they asked, but she announces that she’s divorced. Oops! Then she exposes her ex-husband for his many affairs while they were married. Double oops! For the icing on the cake, Han-deul distributes divorce insurance pamphlets to her relatives for any interested parties to sign up. Pfft.

Han-deul’s final act before leaving, is to give her ex-husband the bidet screw he has been hounding her over since the divorce. And now he can go screw himself. Afterwards, Han-deul admits to Ki-joon that she feels totally better after ending things properly, and the week ends with their kiss. As for the other set of couples, Jeon-man is stunned into silence when Na-rae basically asks him out — and this comes after he stood by her through her betrayal, suspension and redemption. Woong-shik buys Ah-young the sologamy wedding kit she has always wanted, but now she’s hesitant to accept it from him. We shall find out the fate and future of our show’s couples in next week’s finale. Stay tuned.
