Undercover High School: (11-12) An absolute delight from start to finish. In terms of pure enjoyment, it will be hard to top this for me this year! I loved how everything came together for our team, particularly how our undercover agent and our wild card saved the day together and got their happy ending. It was fantastic to see Hae-seong and Su-a working together in the field, and to see her doing her very best to save him! They made a wonderful team (and couple), supporting each other with their words and actions. I’m calling it now – Su-a is my FL of the year, and they could very well be my OTP of the year. Plus, it made me laugh out loud a LOT, which is a huge bonus in my books! AND, the action choreography was not only excellent, but also creative and funny! P.S. they FINALLY released the OST yesterday, FYI.
●50% done with The Witch
I’m glad I waited to start this until it was done airing! I’m enjoying it a lot! It’s dark, kind of slow, and engrossing. It feels like a Bronte-esque fairytale, which I like. You can both tell it was lower budget, and appreciate how they worked around it with directing and cinematography. The leads are excellent – they don’t have a lot of dialogue, and don’t even really interact with each other, but they’re both magnetic on screen. I definitely didn’t expect to be as enthralled as I am. I can see how the (slow) pace and (cyclical) structure can be off-putting for some, but it’s really working for me, and I think it works better viewed as a whole, rather than split across weeks.
●13% done with That Winter, the Wind Blows Started this on a whim, and holy makjang, Batman!! I double-checked the ending to make sure it was happy enough to invest in, and decided to take the plunge. Very much enjoying the draaamaaa so far!! Very extra, very over-the-top. Sometimes I’m just in the mood for melodrama! Whereas The Witch has surprised me by making me cry (I mean, I should have known, but…), this has surprised me by making me laugh at how over-the-top things are. Lol at everyone’s reaction faces 😂
● Not a drama, but loving Ludwig, which I’m watching on Britbox. Charming, cozy, with David Mitchell playing to type and fun puzzle-solving mysteries. Great soundtrack, too! Also watched The Residence, which was good. The quick-cut flashbacks to incriminating moments were repeated ad nauseum, and the resolution wasn’t totally satisfying for me, but I could watch Uzo Aduba (with Randall Park as her sidekick) solve mysteries all day. They were DELIGHTFUL.
