So, what are we all watching this week?
What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…
The Potato Lab: I might not make it, guys. I am fast-forwarding for the great OTP scenes, but turns out I already saw them on social already, and I’m not sure I can stick it out through the lackluster plot. Never thought I’d be asking for a hero’s tragic backstory but I am.

Maurice: Such an intricately crafted musical adaptation of E. M. Forster’s novel, bringing to life a book that’s dear to my heart through string instruments and soul-stirring numbers. Layered with symbolism from the vivid color palette to the juxtaposition of doors and windows, the creative direction further elevates a tightly-written script. Drawing upon the classical references I loved in the novel — Plato’s Symposium, Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique, and the trial of Oscar Wilde — every part of the production feels thoughtfully intentional. While certain key details of the original text have been amended to emphasize the parallels between Maurice and Alec, as well as the narrative foils of Clive, this sharpens the adaptation’s focus on its core themes of self-discovery and self-acceptance. Jung Jae-hwan portrays Maurice Hall with a heartfelt sincerity, embodying his unwavering resilience amidst the tumultuous vulnerability of heartbreak, once again leaving me in awe of his subtle emotional renditions. (He’s the third singer in this recording of my favorite number.) Maurice is at once a universal tale of staying true to yourself, and a cornerstone of queer literature; the musical does the book justice and then some. “That life was beautiful because there was love.”
