Squid Game 3 calls on Lee Jung-jae for the final match

The final trailer before D-Day has dropped for Netflix’s upcoming Squid Game 3, taking a moment of reprieve to look back on where the grueling journey began, when Lee Jung-jae (The Acolyte) first became our underdog Player 456.

In real time, this is 2021 (the good ole days of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns, *shudder*) and it feels like a lifetime ago for our remorseful hero. Accepting that green tracksuit in Season 1 had come with a terrible price and since then, Sung Ki-hoon (Lee Jung-jae) has had to say many, many traumatic goodbyes and we catch a glimpse of some of the familiar faces in the sequence.

We then catch up on what resulted from Season 2, when Ki-hoon made his way back to the squid grounds in a desperate attempt to stop the murderous madness from within. Although still alive, our sad hero thus sits feeling defeated and Kang Ae-shim (Oh My Ghost Clients) quietly consoles him, reaffirming her trust in Ki-hoon’s good heart and intent.

Peeking into the story’s concluding chapter as the teaser comes to a close, we see that Ki-hoon has found renewed resolve to enter the games once again. Re-tying his laces to get ready for the looming last match, waiting for him in the squid ring is of course our Front Man Lee Byung-heon (Our Blues).

This new Season 3 will also be bringing back Kang Haneul (Tastefully Yours), Im Shi-wan (Boyhood), and Park Sung-hoon (Queen of Tears), in addition to Wie Ha-joon (Shark – The Storm), Park Kyu-young (Nine Puzzles), and Yang Dong-geun (Moving), among others in the talented and scrappy cast.

Written and directed by series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk (The Fortress), the third and final showdown of Netflix’s Squid Game will be unfolding on our screens on June 27.
