Oppa So Ji-sub (Doctor Lawyer) is back in broody form, making his grand entrance in Netflix’s Mercy for None and already strewing bodies in his wake for the action-noir’s first poster as well as the official teaser.
Eleven years ago, our Nam Gi-jun (So Ji-sub) was once a big player in Seoul’s underground world. He then struck a deal and walked away from the mob, slicing his own Achilles tendon as the price to pay. However, as the trailer explains with its open, the other parties broke their end of the promise. And our wronged hero is faced with the sudden death of his younger brother Lee Jun-hyuk (Love Scout) – who himself ranked as number two in his faction.
This means all bets are now off the table and a haunted Gi-jun is playing by his own rules, armed only with a baseball bat as his signature weapon. Still, Gi-jun is an unstoppable force over the ensuing action sequence as he storms back into the gang’s dangerous fold, determined to uncover his brother’s killer(s) and wreak his ultimate revenge.
Although not prominently featured in this teaser, the webtoon-adaptation fills out its dark world with a hefty cast, including Heo Jun-ho (Buried Hearts), Gong Myung (Second Shot at Love), and Choo Young-woo (The Trauma Code – Heroes on Call). We also have Ahn Gil-kang (Bittersweet Hell), Lee Beom-soo (Private Lives), and Jo Han-chul (Spring of Youth) in the lineup, in addition to Cha Seung-won (The Tyrant) making a special guest appearance.
Directed by PD Choi Sung-eun in his feature-length series debut, with scripts by Yoo Ki-sung (also making his writing debut), Netflix’s upcoming Mercy for None will be premiering next month on June 6.
