We weren’t expecting to get so much news about future Star Wars projects today, April 18, instead of 2 1/2 weeks from now, May 4. That is the day that Lucasfilm usually reserves for its biggest announcements, as it translates to “May the 4th be with you.” Surely they saved something for that date, right?
Anyway. This morning during Star Wars Celebration in Japan, it was revealed shooting will begin this fall on Star Wars Starfighter, a new spinoff movie set after Episode IX that stars Ryan Gosling. To be honest we’ve heard of so many cancelled film projects by this point that we’ll be surprised if we ever see this. The one thing we can guarantee is that The Mandalorian And Grogu WILL happen, because Grogu is a proven moneymaker so why wouldn’t they. Also, much of it has been shot already. Attendees got to see work-in-progress footage.
There are several TV projects in the works too. They revealed Ahsoka Season 2 is a done deal and filming will begin shortly, though they didn’t have a release window yet. We gotta get Ahsoka and Sabine off that planet! Young Jedi Adventures, for the young Jedis out there, will be premiering a third season soon.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is a new animated series that sees the title character “plotting to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.” A clip was shown to the audience of Maul busting a Force-sensitive Twi’lek out of prison and offering her the position of apprentice. The series is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2026.
Finally, Star Wars Outlaws was confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2, but it won’t be ready on launch…the game won’t reach the system until September 4. That’s all for today; we’ll be back in 2 1/2 weeks with possible footage of some of these things.
