The cast and plot of upcoming Disney+ drama The Remarried Empress sounds really compelling. It has confirmed the leads as Shin Min Ah (No Gain No Love), Joo Ji Hoon (Kingdom), Lee Jong Suk (Big Mouth) and Lee Se Young (Motel California) and it’s a historical drama based on a popular web novel. It sounds like the story would be brimming with drama and angst.
The plot is set in a fictional world and kingdoms. Shin Min Ah plays Empress Navier of the Eastern Empire, who is known for her intelligence and natural grace. She is married to Emperor Sovieshu, played by Joo Ji Hoon. They know each other since childhood. Lee Jong Suk plays Prince Heinrey of the Western Kingdom. Though he approaches Navier with hidden motives, he gradually falls for her. Sovieshu breaks his promise to his wife — to never have a concubine in his life — as he falls for Rashta, played by Lee Se Young, a runaway slave and brings her as his concubine and demands for divorce. Instead of accepting the divorce, Navier asks for his permission so she can remarry Prince Heinrey.
Wow, that’s so many love triangles and quadrangles! And this star-studded cast is so alluring!
The Remarried Empress will be directed by the PD of dramas like I Hear Your Voice, Pinocchio, and Still 17, making this a reunion with Lee Jong Suk. Another reunion is that of Shin Min Ah and Joo Ji Hoon as they both starred in 2007 thriller drama The Devil. The show is being adapted by the writers of movie Brave Citizen.
The drama is set to premiere in 2026.
