Upon the 20th year of the existence of the US version of The Office, The OP Games is introducing two new board games based around the series…
First off the line is The Office Monopoly. No, it didn’t exist before, but it does now. Playing as tokens like a phone, a Dundee Award, a World’s Best Boss mug and a pretzel, players weave their way around the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin, buying, selling, and trading areas like the Conference Room, Toby’ s Desk, and the Reception. You may not be the first person to achieve Boss status at The Office, but might you be the first to deserve it?
You might be wondering what represents the jail in this game, since it’s not like Dunder Mifflin has a holding cell. The answer is…nothing. It’s just the stock Monopoly jail. But all other aspects of the game are Office-fied; the Monopoly money has portraits of the show’s characters on it.
If you want something a bit more original, try Paper Paranoia. It’s a “social hidden identity game” (think Among Us) where not everyone can be trusted. The premise is that Dunder Mifflin’s competitor, Osprey Paper, is expanding and could soon steal all DM’s business — unless they act just as aggressively. So Michael Scott hires a team of interns from the local community college (your players) to lock down the paper market in Scranton.
What Scott doesn’t know is that among these interns are spies! Osprey Paper was cunning enough to put “plants” in the group to sabotage the whole plan. Who are they? Is one of them your best friend? Is one of them you? The game takes place over twelve weeks (in-game time) and comes with a spinning Chore Wheel, loyalty cards, player tokens and “Schrute Bucks.”
Both Office Monopoly and Office: Paper Paranoia can be found in stores now.
