…or they will be come July 14.
That’s when Netflix just announced the hit anime series, which they have the exclusive on, will return with weekly episodes. Sakamoto Days is about the days of Sakamoto — Taro Sakamoto, once the most skilled and feared assassin in Japan. He had a very successful career, until the day he fell in love and decided to retire from it.
Sakamoto now lives in the countryside, operating a mom-and-pop convenience store with his wife and daughter. To say he’s gotten out of shape is an understatement; his pudgy cheeks bounce like a squirrel’s whenever he moves. Try as he might, Sakamoto can’t escape from his past, which begins returning to him the day Shin, another ex-assassin with the ability to read minds, discovers his location. Shin insists he must stay to protect Sakamoto, and one episode later so does Lu, the daughter of a powerful mob boss.
BUT…Sakamoto doesn’t seem to need much protecting. In fact it’s often he who saves Shin and Lu. Turns out none of those skills left him after all these years, and he can still dance around with precision despite his portly build. In fact, after the harder battles Sakamoto actually works off all his fat and regains his original form…but it takes about an hour for him to pig out and become fat again.
When Sakamoto Days was cut off, it had just introduced the title character’s biggest threat yet: a team of psycho-killers sprung from death row thanks to a big baddie who calls himself Slur. On Slur’s command, they are to track down and murder the Order, the league of assassins Sakamoto once belonged to. And they don’t care that he’s not part of it anymore! Sakamoto’s big problem is that his wife says she’ll leave if he ever kills again. Can he eliminate this new threat to his family and friends without taking any lives?
Sakamoto Days will stream in both sub and dub form; the English cast stars Matthew Mercer (Taro Sakamoto), Dallas Liu (Shin Asakura), Vinnie Hacker (Slur), Rosie Okumura (Aoi Sakamoto), Rosalie Chang (Lu Shaotang), Lexi Cabrera (Obiguro) and Xolo Mariduena (Heisuke Mashimo). The show returns July 14…and if you haven’t seen Part 1, it’s streamable right now.
