Ryu Seung-ryong goes treasure hunting with his Low Life gang

Get ready for some treasure hunting in Disney+’s upcoming drama Low Life. Based off the webcomic by Yoon Tae-ho (Inside Men, Misaeng) which took inspiration from a real-life incident, a sunken ship is discovered off the coast of Sinan County in the year 1977, and all the country bumpkins have gathered to strike it rich.

It’s go big or go home for this motley crew, and leading this group of low lives in all their retro glory is Ryu Seung-ryong (Chicken Nugget) as Oh Gwan-seok. Once rumors spread that treasure can be found in the ocean, it becomes a race to see who can nab it first, and Gwan-seok’s nephew Oh Hee-dong — played by Yang Se-jong (Doona) — wants to go all in. Hee-dong suggests hiring the locals, but his plan may not go smoothly as Yunho (Race) calls him out as an outsider.

In fact, hyenas from across the country have gathered, smelling a quick-rich scheme, including Kim Eui-sung (Undercover High School) and Woo Hyeon (Heo’s Diner). Even police officer Lee Dong-hwi (Chief Detective 1958) wants in on the party, but the big guns arrive in the form of Im Soo-jung (Melancholia) who offers to buy all the bowls they find from the site.

The port town soon becomes a den of scam artists and criminals as everyone joins for a slice of the cut, and things turn violent as different factions try to get the upper hand. With the ocean smelling of money and treasures popping up everywhere, it’s finders keepers in these parts of the water as Gwan-seok gathers a team and takes a dive into the ocean.

At the helm of this project is director Kang Yoon-sung (Big Bet, The Outlaws) who co-wrote the scripts with writer Ahn Seung-hwan. Disney+’s Low Life sets sail July 16, dropping three episodes its first week and then two every subsequent Wednesday for a total of 11 episodes.
