Upcoming Korean drama Melo Movie has chosen an apt day for its premiere on Netflix — the show sounds like a perfect blend of romance and fun and it is premiering on Valentine’s Day this week. I’m excited for it for several reasons — firstly, the cast! I really like Choi Woo Shik (Our Beloved Summer) and Park Bo Young (Light Shop) and I’m looking forward to their chemistry here. Secondly, the drama has two sets of OTPs as Lee Joon Young (Dreaming Of A Freaking Fairytale) and Jeon So Nee (Parasyte: The Grey) also costar. Thirdly, it looks like just the kind of contemporary romance I usually enjoy. Even if it features the ‘done several times’ trope of exes-to-lovers, it brings a fresh layer by having both the couples playing it. Lastly, the show stars Kim Jae Wook (Her Private Life) — I did not know this. Pleasantly surprised!
The drama is set in the movie industry. Choi Woo Shik plays an aspiring actor-turned-film critic who fell in love at first sight with Park Bo Young’s character, who is presently an aspiring filmmaker. But they broke up for some reason and then meet again in the present. Lee Joon Young stars as an unknown composer. He dated Jeon So Nee’s character for a long time before breaking up. She is now a successful screenwriter. They also reenter each other’s life. Kim Jae Wook plays Choi Woo Shik’s older brother.
Melo Movie is penned by the writer of Our Beloved Summer and directed by the PD of My Love From The Star, Hotel Del Luna and Start-Up. It will have a total of 10 episodes.
