Anne: OMG it’s been over a month since I last posted?! Where did all the time go?
It’s a stupid question…because I KNOW exactly what has been sucking up the minutes and seconds of my day.
WORK.
Nothing but WORK.
Well… and also the depression after I saw the ending of The Demon Hunter’s Romance…seriously, was that ending really necessary? The stupid obligations to your clan type of thing… This was the same crappy thing that ended The Rise of Phoenixes. At least I knew the latter had a different ending in the book. However, I am too lazy, and BUSY right now, to even track the down the actual ending of the former. I have enough stress in my life with MY obligations, I don’t want to spend time watching a show that keeps reinforcing that concept. I don’t want my entertainment to mimic my life, I want to escape from it! 😈
And this is partly why I’ve been so drawn into the short dramas on YouTube (and I see a LOT more skin on those then the traditional one 😊), the ones where the same, or similar, script/story line is repeated over and over. Yes we all know the rich, devoted, and pure wacko CEOs are completely ridiculous, but I enjoy it. Maybe in my fifties, I’ll have a long lost relative of mine wanting to leave me a fortune.
It’s possible. According to my grandmothers, on BOTH sides of my family, they were wealthy in China during the last emperor’s reign and the Republic of China years. The stories my dad’s mom used to tell… they are right out of a drama series. Sometimes I wonder how much of what she said was true and how much of it were false memories.
Let’s take a look at the couple of shows that I’ve picked up since our last conversation.
Youthful Glory
Everyone knows that I’m a sucker for costume/period dramas that are a little on the quarky side. The drama synopsis may have sounded interesting when I read, but it wasn’t so amazingly different that would have drawn me in to click on play immediately. And while I know who Song Wei Long is, I’ve seen him more on the variety shows than on any drama that he had started in (and good gracious…how can he still be in his 20s!).
But I got bored one day and pressed play.
I’m only up to episode 9…so with what I’ve managed to watch so far… I think the story is a lot more serious than what I imagined. Unfortunately, I kind of skipped over some of those scenes…
The story starts with Ming Tan, the Di daughter, being proposed to…a marriage that she doesn’t want. Well… because the potential groom is already in a relationship with his cousin, who is also pregnant. And as all of us who has watched enough of these dramas… having a child before you married your “wife” is a big no no (it’ is on par of having a concubine before a wife).
While our FL is trying solve her dilemma, the ML, Jiang Xu, is tracking down embezzlers of the military’s funds. And when he asked for help, and she said “no”… His disbelief is about as big as mine. It is interesting to see all the proper things she does and then all the “other” stuff.
As FL tries to figure how to get rid of the “engagement”, she runs into Jiang Xu in the “hidden” room where the embezzled funds are hidden. As the our two CPs move through the plot towards the eventual marriage… we get introduced to our 2nd CP… Ming Chu and Lu Ting. I LOVE these two.
I’ll probably continue to skip over the actual case and just focus on the romance… 💓
The Legend of Zang Hai
I was quite excited to see one when it aired. And then the very first 5 minutes got me very confused. Is this related to the other Tomb stories? What is the with the zombies? Are they zombies? And what in the world did Zang Hai’s father have? That odd green cube? Is there a zombie army that can be controlled?
Except with that odd introduction, at least the killing of his family and how he escaped death is more or less explainable. I do like his masters…even the woman…although…I don’t think one night of lesson was going to be enough to keep him vigilant through the rest of his life. And good gracious not another plastic surgery in ancient time. (okay fine, we’ll buy it again that this is possible without any visible scars.)
This seems like a very LONG and complicated road ahead.
The Prisoner of Beauty
I never had any plans to start this drama, but the rating of this kept going up, and even though I’m not a fan of the Romeo/Juliet clan fighting romance… the story line did intrigue me. It’s not really a Romeo/Juliet type story since the ML and FL have absolutely no love for each other, at all.
First of all…how good looking is that groom of the Qiao family? If I was her sister, yeah, I would elope too.
I have to say, Liu Yu Ning was well casted for this role. How evil does he look when he smiles…
… you have no doubt that he is really, really happy that he was chopping his enemy into pieces, alive.
While it is not realistic, but the ruthlessness and the “childish” behaviors of his core soldiers are unexpectedly funny.
And how surprised am I at seeing Li Xue Qin as the FL’s (Qiao Man) maidservant. She acts like her actual character, so I’m not that surprised. I’ve watched her since she appeared on the Chinese stand up show. Then I saw her in various variety shows, and I always liked her.
Looking forward to the development of this main characters.
Ok… it’s really late and I have work tomorrow.
Hope everyone found something that they are enjoying this week or in the near future.
