Prescription For Sleep Celebrates 11th Anniversary With Free Album

For a full decade now, plus one year, Scarlet Moon Records has produced Prescription For Sleep, a series of albums containing smooth jazz renditions of well-known melodies from popular video games. The series put Scarlet Moon on the map and remains their most successful venture, with over 15 installments in the series thus far. Upon the 11th anniversary of Prescription For Sleep, the publisher is saying thanks with a new album free of charge. Presenting Prescription for Sleep: Under a Scarlet Moon.

As one might expect, the album doesn’t contain NEW content (new stuff costs money), but is more of an anniversary sampler condensing the best of the last decade into six specially chosen tracks. They were all composed by written by Scarlet Moon founder and hobbyist musician Jayson Napolitano, who we suppose is comfortable giving out his own work.

“I came to accept at an early age that I would only be a hobbyist musician,” says Napolitano. “I still write music every now and then, but understood my limitations early on. I thought it might be fun hearing some of my compositions re-imagined by Hibino-san, and we debated whether he’d do the Hollywood hybrid style he’s known for in games, or if we’d do a Prescription for Sleep album. We ultimately opted for the latter. Given its music people aren’t familiar with, I thought ‘free’ was the right price point.
