Reasons to watch: If you’re looking for a dark thriller, the latest original series from Disney+ may hit the spot. Nine Puzzles has a fantastic cast lineup, and I’m especially excited to see Sohn Seok-gu and Kim Da-mi play off of each other.
At the center of Nine Puzzles is a series of unsolved murders, and the first case is the murder of Kim Da-mi’s uncle. Still in high school at the time of the crime, she was the last person to see her uncle alive but has no memory of that day. It would be suspicious if it were anyone other than the victim’s niece, but who could suspect a high schooler could be capable of murder? Detective Sohn Seok-gu, that’s who. In his eyes, all signs point to Kim Da-mi as the killer, but the case goes cold due to lack of evidence (to be fair, she does seem pretty creepy in the trailers).
In the present, Kim Da-mi is now a criminal profiler who wants to use her skills to track down the serial killer that Sohn Seok-gu is also chasing. She has a personal connection to the killer beyond her uncle’s murder: puzzle pieces. Each murder is connected to a puzzle piece that seems designed for Kim Da-mi to solve. In order to stop the killings, our main duo reluctantly join forces.
TL;DR: Sohn Seok-gu and Kim Da-mi playing cat and mouse with a cerebral serial killer.
