Reasons to watch: TVING’s latest original, I Am a Running Mate, is full of fresh faces and takes on a topic that you might not automatically think of when you think of high school: Political ambition. Our story takes place at the height of election season at the school our six protagonists attend. The main cast are all running for student council as running mates in two “parties” (really just Group 1 and Group 2).
In Group 1, we have Yoon Hyun-soo, Lee Jung-shik, and Hong Hwa-yeon (who seems to be everywhere this year). In Group 2 we have Choi Woo-sung, Lee Bong-joon, and Kim Ji-woo. They all have their own reasons for wanting to run and win: image rehab, bragging rights, earning social capital, etc.
Whatever their reason for running, the truth remains that in any election, there can only be one winner. Our ensemble will show us that student elections can be just as intense as any regular election–and that there’s very little a high school student won’t do if it’ll serve their political ambitions.
TL;DR: All the ups and downs of high school life set against the backdrop of school elections.
