Reasons to watch: Hunter with a Scalpel promises to be a bloody thriller with an emotionally charged father-daughter duo that adds emotional heft to this crime drama.
In the dramaland pantheon of bad fathers, Park Yong-woo ranks up there. Not only is he a serial killer, he exposed his daughter Park Joo-hyun to all of his murderous activities when she was just a child. In his twisted mind, showing his daughter his bloody ways was a mark of the love he felt for her.
As an adult, Park Joo-hyun has made a clean slate of her life. Though her childhood experiences left their mark, she’s built a successful career in forensic pathology. But when detective Kang Hoon starts to investigate a recent murder case, her world is upended. The victim bears all the marks of her father’s signature–her supposedly dead father.
While Park Yong-woo angles for a family reunion, Park Joo-hyun has to match wits against both dear old dad Kang Hoon in order to survive with her life and livelihood intact.
TL;DR: A thriller that’s perfect for someone who can handle lots of blood and enjoys complicated father-daughter relationships.
