Park Ji-hoo writes melodies for SBS’s Spring of Youth

Venturing back into the once-charted weekday waters, SBS has cleared the way for a Wednesday drama slot and is raising the sail to push off promos for the campus rom-com Spring of Youth. It’ll be full steam ahead now that a sunny first poster has dropped, introducing us to our main lineup, headlined by Ha Yoo-joon (Namib), Park Ji-hoo (Little Women), and Lee Seung-hyeop (Love Next Door).

Promising an uplifting story centered around music, we must first meet our hero at one of his lowest points, leaving us meaningful room in the story to climb back to the top. In this case, Sa-gye (Ha Yoo-joon) – whose name means “four seasons” – was a K-pop idol star. As these things happen, though, our hero is kicked out after an incident and fate gives him another chance when he returns to college, forming a new band called Two Sa-gye with his new friends.

This brings us to all-rounder Kim Bom (Park Ji-hoo) – meaning “spring” – a music major who puts all her talents to good use as the band’s pianist and vocalist, in addition to showcasing her songwriting potential. When she was younger, she had dreamed of studying abroad at an Ivy-league school. But circumstances changed after her mom sadly passed away six years ago and, having to stretch every penny, she is now an expert in part-time jobs.

Rounding out the leading trio, the charismatic Seo Tae-yang (Lee Seung-hyeop) – meaning “sun” – is a skilled musician and a guitarist in our Two Sa-gye band. Tae-yang comes from a family of doctors, though, and his dad is a bigwig hospital director. He thus succumbs to family pressure and transfers to study medicine, but Tae-yang’s passion for music remains true.

In supportive roles, Kim Sun-min (Undercover High School) takes on the part of the band’s drummer Gong Jin-gu; Seo Hye-won (When Life Gives You Tangerines) plays Sa-gye’s superfan Bae Gyu-ri who is also Bom’s distant cousin .

Directed by PD Kim Sung-yong (My Dearest, The Veil) with scripts by Kim Min-chul, SBS’s Spring of Youth will be specially premiering Episode 1 on Tuesday, May 6, followed by Episode 2 on May 7. The series will continue airing weekly on Wednesdays only thereafter.
