Breaking news: Director Bong Joon-ho’s movie PARASITE has been chosen as the best movie of the 21st century by The New York Times (NYT). This ranking is for movies released after January 1, 2000. A survey was conducted on 500 people, including directors, actors, producers, and film lovers. PARASITE came in first place. The NYT said, “It’s a story about those who have and those who don’t,” and “the distorted shock flows from poor home to rich home.” Director Bong was described as “a master of the genre that is not bound by customs,” and “he burned everything with inevitable violence.”
In addition to PARASITE, other Korean movies on the list were director Bong’s MEMORIES OF MURDER’ (2005) in the 99th place. Director Park Chan-wook was also ranked with OLD BOY (2005) in 43rd place.
