In the Netflix series, “When Life Gives You. Tangerines,” Park Bo Gum’s character, Yang Gwan Sik, isn’t the typical rich chaebol male lead; in fact, he isn’t even an office worker with a stable income. Yang Gwan Shik is a fisherman who struggles to find work because his relationship with Ae Sun (IU) is frowned upon by their families. Despite this, he goes out of his way to make sure Ae Sun never feels lacking.
Still, Gwan Shik may not have riches, but he gives everything he has to Ae Sun–and that itself is more than any chaebol could offer. He literally gives her all he has, even going as far as trying to provide things he doesn’t possess.
This makes you wonder if a man like Gwan Shik is even more fictional than the chaebols often seen in romcoms. Or at least makes you believe that, maybe, a love like this could actually exist in real life.
Yang Gwan Shik can simply be considered one of greenest green flags. ????
