Spring has come around again for Dear M, resuming promos with two new teasers after an extended layover in production limbo since back in 2021. The campus romance was then released for online streaming in 2022 – but only outside of South Korea – and has now secured a spot on KBS Joy’s upcoming schedule.
The first teaser sets up our central story thread as giddy gossip starts to spread about a posting on the college community bulletin by the mysterious user, “M,” announcing their desire to confess their feelings to their crush. But because the Korean language doesn’t have gendered pronouns, initial speculations are over whether M is a woman or a man.
Our leads then wonder if M is someone within their main friend group, introducing us to dorm-mates: Park Hye-soo (Introverted Boss), NCT’s Jae-hyun (You Will Die in 6 Hours), and Noh Jung-eui (The Witch), as well as Bae Hyun-sung (Family by Choice), Up10tion’s Lee Jin-hyuk (Frankly Speaking) and Woo Da-bi (Jeongnyeon – The Star is Born).
With the posting now viral, the students start dissecting the text to look for clues about M’s identity and in voiceover we hear them brainstorming possible suspects based on their writing skills and personality. The curiosity then shifts to who the crush might be, making everyone’s heart flutter and we end on the sentiment: “Because we too could be someone’s first love, we just don’t know.”
In the second teaser, we spend some time with lovey-dovey couple, Seo Ji-min (Noh Jung-eui) and Park Haneul (Bae Hyun-sung). Gushing to her friend, Ji-min reveals that she knew at first sight that Haneul would be her real first love and waxes poetic about how wonderful he is. Indeed, the two make a picture perfect pair in the sequence. But in dramaland, that usually means that trouble will soon be afoot.
On the production side, the series had PD Park Jin-woo and PD Seo Joo-wan co-directing, together with scripts penned by Lee Seul. Launching next month on April 14, KBS Joy’s Dear M is slated to broadcast in a Monday-Tuesday slot.
