News bites: April 20, 2025

Ma Dong-seok, Park Hyung-shik

  • KBS is said to be preparing for action and adventure this summer, resurrecting their prime time weekend slot to reportedly broadcast Twelve in August. Ramping up a superhero battle between angels and a crafty crow, the series stars Ma Dong-seok (Police Unit 38, The Roundup: Punishment), Park Hyung-shik (Buried Hearts), and Seo In-gook (Death’s Game), in addition to Sung Dong-il (The Art of Negotiation) and Lee Joo-bin (The Divorce Insurance) among a talented ensemble cast. • KBS has also been busy continuing the promo workout for Pump Up the Healthy Love, bulking up muscles for fitness with a side of ~love~ between Lee Jun-young (When Life Gives You Tangerines) and Jung Eun-ji (Miss Night and Day) in the latest poster. Stocked and ready with unsalted and unbuttered popcorn (gotta be healthy-er of course) to watch from the gym sidelines, the sports rom-com will soon begin on April 30 next week. [Osen]

  • For criminal profiler Kim Da-mi (Our Beloved Summer) and cop Sohn Seok-gu (Heavenly Ever After), it’s brains over brawn with Nine Puzzles to crack on Disney+, and they already have us parsing for clues in the crime-thriller’s new graphic poster. The 11-episode series will be releasing in a curious sequence on Wednesdays as well, kicking off with six episodes on May 21, followed by 3 episodes on May 28, and then concluding their mystery story with 2 episodes on June 4. • Hopefully, we can then rest our muscles and our minds in SBS’s new posters for Spring of Youth, finding healing and growth through music as we follow the journey of Ha Yoo-joon (Namib), Park Ji-hoo (Little Women), and Lee Seung-hyeop (Love Next Door). Re-opening a mid-week drama slot for SBS, the campus romance will markedly be airing its first two episodes on May 6 and 7, respectively. Subsequent episodes will release once a week on Wednesdays thereafter. [Star News]

  • Lee Min-jae (Kick Kick Kick Kick) has been added to the cast of ENA’s upcoming My Golden Star, playing the past younger version of our detective hero Song Seung-heon (Player 2 – Master of Swindlers) when he was an over-passionate rookie in his 20s, freshly starting out in his career. Also starring Uhm Jung-hwa (Doctor Cha), Lee El (When the Stars Gossip), and Oh Dae-hwan (New Recruit 3), the rom-com is planning to broadcast later this year. [Sports Kyunghyang]
  • In the meantime, Lee Min-jae is heading back to high school with Park Ji-hoon (Love Song for Illusion), Ryeoun (The History of Losers), and Choi Min-young (XO, Kitty, Twenty Five Twenty One) in the newest stills for Netflix’s Weak Hero Class 2. Standing up against bullies, Yoo Soo-bin (The Perfect Deal), Bae Nara (Evilive), and Lee Jun-young (When Life Gives You Tangerines), the webtoon adaptation’s new second season will be launching this week on April 25.
