We haven’t seen the last of The Last Of Us — there’s a whole other game to adapt and HBO begins doing it next month. The new trailer they published over the weekend highlights the three factions at war as we join our characters five years after the end of Season One: the Fireflies, the militaristic WLF, and the cult of the Seraphites (colloquially called the “Scars”). That would be enough to deal with but this society also has a zombie problem!
HBO has implied they want The Last Of Us to be a four-season show. The first season adapted the entire first game and did so faithfully, lifting some cutscenes verbatim. We hear that won’t be the case this time…to stretch out the rest of the story, there will be plenty of extra material we never saw in the games. In some cases they’ll actually be cut material that was meant for the game but eliminated due to lack of time.
It’ll be interesting to see what the public reaction is to this season, if what we think happens in it is going to happen. There is a twist early in the game that was VERY controversial and had a lot of fans griping for months. If you don’t know what we mean, then congrats — you somehow managed to avoid all those people. Keep dodging spoilers until mid-April when you can see it for yourself. Then we can all have tea and sympathy together.
And no, we’re not talking about the end of the trailer where Ellie looks angry and says “YOU SWORE.” You can probably guess what that is about, if you’ve seen Season One.
The Last Of Us will feature the return of Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, alongside Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. Joining the cast will be Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Catherine O’Hara is also in this season somewhere but they won’t tell us where.
The Last Of Us Season 2 will premiere Sunday, April 13 at 9 PM on HBO and Max, with new episodes premiering on a weekly basis. The second season will be seven episodes long.
