New Korean Dramas: February 2025

AdminFebruary 8, 2025

I ended up watching only one January drama (Love Scout), which means I’ll have time to watch the multiple shows that I’m interested in from the long list of February premieres. Let’s have a look at what’s coming to our screens this month:

Kick Kick Kick Kick

Premiere Date: February 5

Network: KBS

Stars: Ji Jin Hee (Romance In The House), Lee Kyu Hyung (May It Please The Court), Baek Ji Won (Connection), Lee Min Jae (Hide)

Slot: Wednesday & Thursday

Number Of Episodes: 12

Genre: Sitcom

Synopsis: A washed-up actor and a once-successful variety show producer establish a new content production company.

Thoughts: The lead cast looks great and the plot sounds good too but I’m not really into Korean sitcoms. It does get bonus points for such an interesting title!

The Scandal of Chun Hwa / Chunhwa Love Story

Premiere Date: February 6

Network: TVING

Stars: Go Ah Ra (Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol), Chang Ryul (The Golden Spoon), Chani (Under The Queen’s Umbrella)

Slot: Thursday

Number Of Episodes: 10

Genre: Historical, Romance

Synopsis: Set in a fictional country, this historical drama is about a princess who grew up with an independent mindset. She decides that she will personally choose her future husband. In her quest to find her one true love, she meets the city’s most notorious playboy and the city’s most eligible bachelor.

Thoughts: This one looks bold from the promos. The story is different from usual historical dramas. I’ll wait for the reviews to give this one a try.

Undercover High School

Premiere Date: February 21

Network: MBC

Stars: Seo Kang Joon (When The Weather Is Fine), Jin Ki Joo (My Perfect Stranger), Kim Shin Rok (The Kidnapping Day)

Slot: Friday & Saturday

Number Of Episodes: 12

Genre: Action, Comedy, Romance, Thriller

Synopsis: A National Intelligence Service agent goes undercover as a high school student in order to track down King Gojong’s missing gold.

Thoughts: This synopsis is so similar to Bollywood movie Main Hoon Na (2004)! Overall, looks like a fun, adventurous ride.

Newtopia

Premiere Date: February 7

Network: Coupang Play

Stars: Park Jung Min (Hellbound), Jisoo (BLACKPINK; Snowdrop)

Slot: Friday

Number Of Episodes: 8

Genre: Romance, Action, Thriller, Horror

Synopsis: A man who is serving in the military and his girlfriend race through a zombie-infested Seoul to find each other.

Thoughts: This might be interesting but I’m not a fan of the zombie genre.

Friendly Rivalry

Premiere Date: February 10

Network: U+mobiletv

Stars: Hyeri (May I Help You), Jung Soo Bin (Chief Detective 1958), Hyewon (Boyhood), Oh Woo Ri (One Day Off), Kim Tae Hoon (Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born)

Genre: Mystery, Thriller

Synopsis: Chaehwa Girls’ High School is an elite institution for the top 1 percent in South Korea, where cutthroat academic competition takes place between the students. It’s about a transfer student who becomes entangled in her classmates’ hidden ambitions.

Thoughts: The thrillers set in high schools are not really my preferred stories.

Melo Movie

Premiere Date: February 14

Network: Netflix

Stars: Choi Woo Shik (Our Beloved Summer), Park Bo Young (Light Shop), Lee Joon Young (Dreaming Of A Freaking Fairytale), Jeon So Ni (Parasyte: The Grey), Kim Jae Wook (Her Private Life)

Slot: All episodes released together

Number Of Episodes: 10

Genre: Romance, Comedy

Synopsis: Two sets of couples — an aspiring actor-turned-film critic and an aspiring filmmaker, and an unknown composer and a scriptwriter — meet again after their respective break-ups.

Thoughts: This is totally my cup of tea! I like that they have added two sets of exes to bring a fresh layer to the overdone trope of ‘exes to lovers’. Also, the cast is so charming!

Buried Hearts / Treasure Island

Premiere Date: February 21

Network: SBS

Stars: Park Hyung Sik (Doctor Slump), Heo Joon Ho (Missing: The Other Side), Lee Hae Young (Mr. Plankton), Hong Hwa Yeon (Mental Coach Jegal)

Slot: Friday & Saturday

Number Of Episodes: 16

Genre: Romance, Comedy

Synopsis: A big company is thrust into the spotlight when its controversial project triggers an investigation by Korea’s National Assembly — an opportunity that a company executive seizes to advance his career and ultimately take control of the company.

Thoughts: Park Hyung Shik in a serious revenge drama! The role looks different from his previous ones. This could turn out to be a taut and thrilling ride.

My Dearest Nemesis

Premiere Date: February 17

Network: tvN

Stars: Moon Ga Young (The Interest Of Love), Choi Hyun Wook (Twinkling Watermelon), Im Se Mi (The Worst Of Evil), Kwak Shi Yang (Flex X Cop)

Slot: Monday & Tuesday

Number Of Episodes: 12

Genre: Romance, Comedy

Synopsis: The love story of two people who first met via their online game characters during their school days, then meet again 16 years later as boss and employee.

Thoughts: I like this plot! It has potential to be funny and romantic and fun! And I’m so glad to see Moon Ga Young in a light-hearted role after her super serious and angsty character in The Interest Of Love.

The Witch

Premiere Date: February 15

Network: Channel A

Stars: Jinyoung (GOT7; Yumi’s Cells), Roh Jeong Eui (Hierarchy)

Slot: Saturday & Sunday

Number Of Episodes: 10

Genre: Romance, Mystery, Drama

Synopsis: A woman is chased away from her village after all the men who fell in love with her died. A man who grew up with her tries to investigate the strange ‘curse’ that plagues her.

Thoughts: This definitely looks intriguing.

For Eagle Brothers

Network: KBS

Stars: Uhm Ji Won (Little Women), Ahn Jae Wook (Not Others), Yoon Park (Doctor Slump)

Slot: Saturday & Sunday

Number Of Episodes: 50

Genre: Drama, Comedy, Family

Synopsis: The story of five brothers of a traditional brewery company, which has been making traditional liquor for three generations, and their eldest sister-in-law, who suddenly becomes the head of the family after her husband’s unexpected death.

Thoughts: I’m not really into long weekend dramas but this show surely looks good and the cast is great too.
