Inspired by the acclaimed Spanish play El Chico de la última fila, the series explores creativity, obsession, and mentorship in the most unexpected ways.
At its heart is Heo Mun-oh (Choi Min Sik), a cranky literature professor and washed-up writer who’s lost touch with inspiration—until he discovers Lee Kang (Choi Hyun Wook), a brilliant yet enigmatic student always seated in the back row. Intrigued by Lee Kang’s writing, Mun-oh offers him private classes, sparking a chain of events that blur the lines between mentorship and manipulation.
As Mun-oh rediscovers his own passion, buried tensions and long-held regrets begin to surface. Heo Joon Ho plays Kim Su-hun, Mun-oh’s successful and self-satisfied writer friend who serves as a painful reminder of what Mun-oh never achieved. Su-hun’s wife, portrayed by Kim Yun Jin, and Mun-oh’s psychologist wife, played by Jin Kyung, add layers to the emotional stakes.
Directed by Kim Gyu-tae (Our Blues, The Trunk) and written by Jang Myung-woo (My Mother, the Mermaid), the series promises a gripping blend of psychological drama and literary intrigue. With production by Kakao Entertainment and Gtist, this Netflix original is poised to deliver a compelling story of ambition, jealousy, and rediscovery.
