More teasers are out for the affable attorneys of tvN’s Law and the City, featuring the friendship forged between five associate lawyers from different law firms. Brought together by their profession and their shared lunch hours, the quintet have playfully christened themselves the “Atvengers,” short for Attorney Avengers.
The first teaser opens with Ryu Hye-young (Gangnam B-Side) running into the office elevator, a cup of takeaway coffee in hand. Oops, it looks like the tough-as-nails Bae Moon-jung might be on today’s tardiness roster. A few floors up, Kang Yoo-seok (Resident Playbook) is having his morning cuppa too as the extroverted maknae Jo Chang-won, and he’s helpfully prepared a cup for his pragmatic office mate Ha Sang-ki, played by Im Sung-jae (Newtopia).
Several floors higher, Lee Jong-seok (Big Mouth) adjusts his glasses as the veteran attorney Ahn Joo-hyung. With nine years of experience under his belt — and all at the same law firm, no less — the capable Joo-hyung makes reviewing case documents look like a model’s photoshoot. We move up another floor to meet Moon Ga-young (My Dearest Nemesis) as Kang Hee-ji, typing away at her desk. As a rookie lawyer, Hee-ji is still fueled by her idealistic hope to change the world for the better, and she can’t hide her smile when she finds just the document she needs.
Up on the rooftop, our quintet convene for a break, more coffee, and some fresh air. Heh, I love how Moon-jung’s outfit stands out amongst the others’ monochrome wear. As our five associate lawyers navigate the ups and downs of corporate life, we’ll watch them grow both as attorneys and as people. And of course, we’ll see them enjoy delicious food along the way, as Sang-ki helpfully reminds us: “Hey, what shall we eat for lunch?”
Fast forward to the next teaser, where we catch up with our fantastic five at the end of the day. Hee-ji stretches in satisfaction after finishing her last stack of documents, ready to wrap up her work. In contrast, a solemn Joo-hyung slides a sheaf of papers into his briefcase, as if intending to continue reviewing them at home. A couple floors down, Chang-won picks up a package, his lips quirking up in an satisfied grin.
In the pantry below, the workaholic Sang-ki is interrupted by Moon-jung, who reminds “Grandpa” that it’s time to clock out. Ha, he doesn’t even bat an eye when Moon-jung shuts his laptop in one fell swoop — looks like we know who calls the shots in our team. Hopefully Sang-ki saved his work?
As the buddies file out of the office together, Chang-won asks if they’re up for a round of after-work beers, and Moon-jung enthusiastically echoes his suggestion. On the same page as usual, our lawyers head out with smiles on their faces, ready to unwind after a long day at work.
Helmed by PD Park Seung-woo (Adamas, Kairos) with lawyer-turned-writer Lee Seung-hyun penning its scripts, Law and the City is slated to premiere on July 5.
