Get ready to pump some iron with Jung Eun-ji (Miss Night and Day) and Lee Jun-young (When Life Gives You Tangerines) in KBS’s sports rom-com Pump Up the Healthy Love. As romance sprouts in the sweatiest of places, a worrywart and a fitness nut begin their wellness journey together with a side of love to lighten things up.
Opening to a forlorn Lee Mi-ran (Jung Eun-ji) sitting in the rain with a bgm reflecting her recently broken heart, the teaser begins with Do Hyun-joong (Lee Jun-young) telling her to return even if it takes her some time. They get into a few close contact situations – falling next to each other, locking eyes as he grabs her hand away from another man – but Mi-ran warns him that she will make him regret it.
As Hyun-joong inches closer to her face, he tells her that if she is curious, then she can do a hundred squats with him. The music cuts out with his odd command, and the scene changes to Mi-ran collapsing to the ground while personal trainer Hyun-joong observes with a clipboard in his hand.
Able to guess the weight of anything he carries – even Mi-ran who falls into his arms – our health club director Hyun-joong promises to change our leading lady’s life. As their body fat percentage lowers and their romance increases, the once miserable Mi-ran hits the gym and even does squats at work.
Mi-ran asks if she can stand confidently after completing this hell, and Hyun-joong yells at her to lunge lower. Despite her aching muscles and shaking hands, Mi-ran’s screams of pain and refusal to continue slowly morph into laughs and a sense of accomplishment. Hyun-joong smiles into the camera, but his expression is almost crazed as he promises not to hurt his potential gym member. The teaser then ends with Mi-ran asking if they can work on her glutes instead of her chest, which sounds scandalous in a public space.
Co-directed by PDs Park Joon-soo (Gaus Electronics) and Choi Yeon-soo with scripts written by Kim Ji-soo (Birthcare Center), KBS’s Pump Up the Healthy Love is slated for twelve episodes and premieres April 30 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.
