Court is now in session on JTBC, opening promos with the first teaser for Esquire, where we’re escorted to meet our attorney leads: Lee Jin-wook (Squid Game 2) and Jung Chae-yeon (Family by Choice).
In a classic veteran-rookie team-up, the office series will be taking us on a journey of growth for our clashing characters and the trailer first introduces us to the calm, collected, and cool Yoon Seok-hoon (Lee Jin-wook). As a partner at the firm, Seok-hoon is impeccably capable and his co-workers can’t help but be impressed. Unfortunately, he’s also humorless and unforgiving about mistakes, showing no consideration for the new hires who are still adjusting and learning the job.
This brings us to the fledgling lawyer Kang Hyo-min (Jung Chae-yeon), who has just entered the workforce and is haphazardly trying her best. And with this new chapter in adulthood, Hyo-min is realizing that there’s something harder than law school: trying to work cooperatively with the jerk boss.
I suppose Seok-hoon might just be hiding the softie within because we do get a glimmer of a smile as the video teaser comes to an end. And if anything, we can be sure that he takes great pride in his work. In the final sequence, we then close on his teaching to the rookies about the honorary title of “esquire” used by lawyers (in some English-speaking regions), cautioning them to behave in a way that’s fitting of that title.
Also starring Lee Hak-joo (The Potato Lab) and Jeon Hye-bin (The Pork Cutlets), production for JTBC’s Esquire has PD Kim Jae-hong (Love Scout, Flex x Cop) at the helm with scripts by Park Mi-hyun. Coming to our screens on August 2, the legal office series will follow Good Boy in the weekend slot.
