Putting together another meta infomercial in tvN’s latest promo for The Divorce Insurance, our actuary Lee Dong-wook (A Shop for Killers) stands at center stage once again to playfully refute the ruffled feathers against our story’s new insurance plan.
Opening the video with Noh Ki-joon’s (Lee Dong-wook) back to the screen, the appearing text as well as the accompanying voiceover relays the main complaint pouring in: “How can you talk about divorce to someone now when they’re just about to get married!? Are you trying to instigate a divorce? At this time?”
Ki-joon then turns around to present his defense, swiftly knocking down the argument using the all-common life insurance as an example. It is, of course, quite true that selling or signing up for life insurance, doesn’t equate to instigating death. And so, it stands to reason that other types of insurance – including divorce – should not be seen in that light.
Ki-joon’s closing farewell is similarly short but impactful, intentionally timing the video’s release a couple days ago with our hero’s promise to see us again in four weeks time, when the series premieres.
It’s a cheeky nod, as “four weeks” in Korean is a homonyn and can also mean someone’s life destiny or fortune. The phrase, “See you in four weeks,” is a reference as well to veteran actor Shin Gu’s (The Empire) iconic catchphrase on KBS’s super long-running makjang drama Marriage Clinic, Love and War (2 seasons, 600+ episodes!) in 1999-2014.
Also starring Lee Joo-bin (Tarot), Lee Kwang-soo (No Way Out – The Roulette), and Lee Da-hee (Island), production for the office comedy has filmmaker Lee Won-seok (Killing Romance) and PD Choi Bo-kyung at the helm, with scripts penned by Lee Tae-yoon (Secret Royal Inspector and Joy). Following My Dearest Nemesis in the Monday-Tuesday slot, tvN’s The Divorce Insurance will be coming to our screens on March 31.
