Singing out to us from the Squid Game playground in the newly released official trailer, Netflix is calling us back to their gates for the third and final match. And it’s time for our still-alive hero Lee Jung-jae (The Acolyte) to face the Front Man Lee Byung-heon (Our Blues) once more.
Picking up from where we left off after the cruel events of Season 2, Sung Ki-hoon (Lee Jung-jae) – a.k.a. Player 456 – questions why his life was spared. But he of course won’t be getting any answers yet, as our battered group is soon herded out of the dorms for the next round of games.
Tensions are high as our still-standing players step out with their shoes and tracksuits stained with red, giving us a peek into the life-and-death play to come. The sequence re-acquaints us with Season 3’s returning characters as well, including Kang Haneul (Tastefully Yours), Im Shi-wan (Boyhood), and Park Sung-hoon (Queen of Tears), in addition to Yang Dong-geun (Moving), Kang Ae-shim (Oh My Ghost Clients), Jo Yuri (Work Later Drink Now 2), and Lee David (Law School).
Lurking in the outskirts of the Squid facilities, we see Wie Ha-joon (Shark – The Storm) and Park Kyu-young (Nine Puzzles) also continuing their story threads. The teaser then closes on the final boss confrontation as Ki-hoon is suited up in tux – though still as 456 – and escorted to meet the Front Man in the upstairs VIP room for the oh-so-special elite.
In this third installment of Netflix’s Squid Game, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk (The Fortress) remained at the helm, in both directing and scripts. Concluding its story with a 6-episode season, this last playground battle will be launching on June 27 later this month.
