Kim Hye-ja risks ruining her Heavenly Ever After

A new teaser has dropped for JTBC’s romantic fantasy Heavenly Ever After showcasing a different side to the afterlife. Kim Hye-ja (Our Blues) stars as Lee Hae-sook, a recently deceased older woman who chooses to live the remaining years of forever in her current form. Her peculiar personality doesn’t end there, it seems, as her presence brings about a change to her heavenly surroundings.

Afterlife center director Cheon Ho-jin (The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract) tells a resident that heaven seems to have gotten more “fun” ever since Hae-sook joined them, but from his tone, he might not exactly see all these changes as positive. In front of a crowd, he informs his audience that heaven isn’t a prize, and Hae-sook ducks her head away from the observers. She asks if some people come to heaven by mistake, and that question alone says a lot about our leading lady.

While the director warns his heavenly residents that CCTVs are everywhere, Hae-sook menacingly asks a worker how long has it been since she’s been hurt. Her smile does not reach her eyes as she punches her hands, and I already adore this sweet, scary old lady.

The director meets with his troublemaking resident, assuring Hae-sook that she isn’t evil, but then the teaser cuts to her smashing a screen with a rock as Han Ji-min (Love Scout) tries to stop her. With every misdemeanor she commits, Hae-sook receives a grape, and Ryu Deok-hwan (LTNS) reminds her that if she gets one more, then they will send her to hell.

Hae-sook’s husband Sohn Seok-gu (A Killer Paradox) does his best to keep her calm, but it must not have been enough in the end since she suddenly finds herself staring into a burning ravine as a slow stream of people walks towards it. Though Hae-sook tries to turn around, the crowd pushes her forward and away from heaven.

Directed by PD Kim Seok-yoon (Behind Your Touch) with scripts penned by by Lee Nam-kyu (Daily Dose of Sunshine) and Kim Su-jin, JTBC’s Heavenly Ever After is slated for twelve episodes and premieres April 19 in the Saturday-Sunday slot.
