K-Pop Playlist: Rising Artists
I’ve alway been the type to get drawn in by music that isn’t considered mainstream, or by artists that aren’t household names. There’s something exciting about discovering new or hidden talents and bringing them into the spotlight! Today’s playlist includes a couple familiar names, but also a selection of rising artists that deserve a listen as well. Curious?! Let’s hit play!!
APINK – ‘Tap Clap’
Celebrating their 14th anniversary, the ladies of APINK bring a fun and carefree new single — it’s a total bop! The message is all about youth and living in the moment, which is mirrored in the vlog-style, girls’ trip MV. This song is so catchy that I couldn’t help but add it to my playlist!
JANG HANEUM – ‘Shine’
Rookie singer-songwriter and producer, Jang HanEum, recently dropped his first EP and I am falling for his beautiful, silky vocals! The synth-heavy, EDM beat of his title-track ‘Shine’ is giving a sparkly, 80’s sound. Loving the retro vibe of the music — it’s the perfect backdrop for his voice!
SUNNYKEY – ‘Starlight’
This indie girl-band immediately captured my attention, when I was sifting thru new music releases!! As a project group, they have dropped a series of singles over the past few months and ‘Starlight’ is my favorite of the bunch so far. Their concept is sweet and their sound, up-beat and vibrant!
NUNEGASHI – ‘H.U.R.T’
Gravelly and raspy vocals are the signature of rookie, Korean-rock singer Nunegashi! This new single starts strong and doesn’t let up. I’m enjoying the groovy, beat and the stumbling, slightly out-of-control feel of the music. It’s a quirky rock song that has me bopping along every time!
CHENLE (NCT) – ‘Lucid’
Maybe it’s because I’ve recently been trying to learn Chinese. Or maybe it’s because of Chenle’s beautiful voice. No matter the reason, I can’t deny that this new, solo ballad delivers. The simple, piano-led melody builds with additional instruments as the verses progress, while Chenle’s vocals weave a melancholy, yet hopeful story — ‘Lucid’ is perfectly stunning.
YdBB – ‘Get Lucky!’
Another new-to-me discovery! YdBB has been together since 2020, but it was their recent single release ‘Get Lucky’ that piqued my curiosity. Their energy is contagious and this track makes me want to get up and jump around alongside them. Excited to highlight this great indie band!!
BONUS TRACK: LIM SEJUN – ‘Summer’
This all-English, solo single from VICTON member Lim SeJun is very aptly named — it’s a fantastic summer bop! I was also thrilled to see familiar Oahu scenery throughout the entirety of the MV. Happy island girl right here!!
