Our Movie Episodes 3 and 4 Highlights

“No one on the outside can find out about your illness.”

In a surprising twist, we learn Da-eum auditioned for the lead role in Je-ha’s debut movie and was likely to get cast. Yet, she was diagnosed with terminal illness and had to be hospitalized. Which explains why Da-eum recognized Je-ha, though he doesn’t seem to remember her.

At present, Seung-won keeps pushing Je-ha to cast Seo-young for the lead role, sending her the script and releasing articles about her being in talks. Not that Je-ha will waver. He has already chosen Da-eum. Instead, the one who might be in a tight corner is Da-eum. She likes Seo-young yet has no intention of backing out this time.

Jotting down an agreement, Je-ha has two conditions. Da-eum has to keep her condition a secret and not die. She has one too. Je-ha should do his best and not ruin the movie. This is confusing, given a director wouldn’t do anything to wreck their movie. Yet, Je-ha’s take on the story is controversial. For a romance movie, he dismisses love as a needless aspect of the story, to everyone else’s protest. (In a flashback, we learn Je-ha made his debut movie to find out what love is. But we guess there might be more learning for him to do in that regard.)

“Can we make that movie together?”

For now, Je-ha has two tasks to handle. 1# Convincing the investors that Da-eum is a better fit for the role than Seo-young. 2# Getting the other crew members on board and ensuring the filming starts quickly. Not to mention, Je-ha chose the busiest people in the industry. For the first issue, Je-ha resolves to do a test shoot and show everyone how talented Da-eum is. He then entrusts the second mission to Seung-won but has to visit a crew member to convince him when he deems the movie too bleak.

To avoid pressuring Da-eum, Je-ha keeps it a secret that the movie’s fate depends on the test shoot. But she learns about it after overhearing the crew members talk. Hard work pays off for our crew, and the investors are stunned by Da-eum’s talent. She is ecstatic to hear it and hugs Je-ha in a spontaneous moment. He doesn’t seem to mind and pats her on the head to comfort her when she talks about her condition.

A jealous Seo-young accepts the supporting role Je-ha offered her, claiming she wants to meet Da-eum alone. In a warm gesture, Seo-young treats Da-eum nicely and offers to rehearse together. Things were going well until Da-eum collapsed, and Seo-young took her to the hospital (the one where Da-eum’s father works for secrecy). To her credit, Seo-young doesn’t pressure Da-eum about it. But she considers telling Je-ha, wholly oblivious that he knows Da-eum’s condition.

Initially, Da-eum kept her seizure a secret from Je-ha, claiming she went to the hospital for a routine checkup. But she ends up telling him the truth. To Da-eum’s surprise, Je-ha is more worried about her health than the confidentiality clause. He even goes the extra mile to ensure Da-eum doesn’t get depleted, agreeing to do a photoshoot in return for getting the schedule pushed back and hiring her a manager to keep the press and agencies away since everyone is curious about the rookie actress who outshone Seo-young.

“You are like a person made of concrete.”

It is time for the table read. Da-eum is equal parts nervous and excited. She made a few mistakes, but overall, it was good. To understand her role better, Da-eum goes to see the original movie’s lead actress. Simultaneously, Je-ha drops by, yet isn’t pleased to see Da-eum there. Je-ha went there to confront the lead actress about knowing his father wasn’t the actual writer of the movie. But he is ashamed Da-eum overheard their conversation. On their way back, Je-ha opens up to Da-eum about doing that remake to disclose the truth.

In an intriguing twist, the actor playing the male lead, Kim Jung-woo (Seo Yi-seo), announces to Je-ha and Da-eum that he and Seo-young are seeing each other. Noticing Seo-young’s eyes were glued to Je-ha, he probably wanted to mark his territory. Je-ha might feel taken aback by the news, but certainly not jealous. Instead, Seo-young gets mad at Jung-woo yet claims it is only because she doesn’t want other people to know about them.

While Jung-woo and Seo-young’s relationship might be shaky, our leads’ relationship is brewing more stably. As we end this week, Da-eum drops by Je-ha’s house. She plays joyfully in the rain while he tries to keep her from getting a cold. Still, he agrees to let his guard down and join her for a minute. And if the look on his face is of any indication, it might not take long for romance to blossom between this duo.

Our Movie Episodes 3 and 4 Musings

Je-ha is a closed book, full of secrets and always on guard. In contrast, Da-eum feels like an open book, passionate, earnest, and expresses her feelings openly. The contrast in their personalities further heightens the excitement for our leads’ upcoming romance. Je-ha keeps his walls high and doesn’t let anyone enter his life easily. Yet Da-eum wiggles her way inside through her spontaneity and selflessness.

Da-eum is the complete opposite of Seo-young, who is driven by her desires and doesn’t seem to care about the consequences of her actions on others. Seo-young might play nice for now, but there is no telling what she might do in the future, especially after our leads get together officially. It is fascinating how Da-eum and Seo-young’s true personalities match the characters they are playing. And even the movie plot isn’t that much different from the drama.

Lastly, we can’t help but worry about Da-eum’s condition getting disclosed. On one hand, Seo-young’s agency’s CEO, Ko Hye-young (Seo Jung-yeon), is dead set on signing Da-eum, going as far as to offer to make her the next Seo-young. Also, there is Seo-young herself who kept cornering Da-eum after learning she doesn’t drink. And then, we have Jung-woo, who feels like a wild card. Earlier, Je-ha told Da-eum not to meet Jung-woo alone, claiming he is concerned Jung-woo might notice Da-eum’s condition, though we suspect a little jealousy here.

Honestly, we aren’t that fond of the underlying tension. So, we hope the drama keeps it to a minimum while focusing on our leads’ journey. Keep it up, show.
