Will she find a way to change this tragic fate?”

Opening Week Rating:
Sure! Here’s a livelier and more polished version of that summary:
When Kim Ram-woo (Gong Myung) transfers to a new school, he crosses paths with Jung Hee-wan (Kim Min Ha). Thanks to an April Fool’s Day tradition, the two swap names—sparking an unexpected and special bond.
To Ram-woo’s surprise, Hee-wan begs to keep using his name, claiming her luck has turned around since the switch. As her feelings start to blossom, fate gives her a bonus: her first crush lives in the same apartment complex, giving her the perfect excuse to create chances to meet him.
“Have you been well? Did you not miss me until now? We promised to meet on Graduation Day, but couldn’t. It turns out that today is April Fool’s Day.”
Years later, in an impossible twist of fate, they reunite. Ram-woo, who had already passed away, returns to the human world—as a Grim Reaper—tasked with delivering heartbreaking news to Hee-wan: she only has one week left to live.
Instead of despair, Ram-woo makes a heartfelt plea for her to complete his bucket list. From stargazing to bird watching to soaring through the skies in a paraglider, each item holds a deeper meaning. Unbeknownst to Hee-wan, the list is actually a piece of their shared past, inspired by a moment when she once revealed her dreams to do these things with someone truly special.
If you pick this drama, be patient until the second episode, because that’s when it shows its promise. It starts with most of the elements seemingly disconnected. Sometimes, the flashbacks that connect to the present timeline might feel confusing. But it seems to be how the series will run the narrative.
Obviously, we want to know how Ram-woo died and if it is linked to his changing name situation with Hee-wan. Although not directly stated, Ram-woo’s return to fulfill Hee-wan’s high school young love bucket list is a sweet gesture. We can conclude that he felt the same way about Hee-wan in high school.
Way Back Love gives off the same vibe as the classic ’90s romance films. Fun and sweet storyline with charming characters. On that note, it also has a tendency to be formulaic and predictable.
Fortunately, the series will have a quick run only so it will feel just like a long movie. Will Hee-wan really die in a week? What’s the real deal on Ram-woo’s return?
