KBS is ready to hit the gym with Jung Eun-ji (Miss Night and Day) and Lee Jun-young (When Life Gives You Tangerines) in their upcoming rom-com Pump Up the Healthy Love. A heart-pounding romance awaits our main couple, but will the thumps be from their romance or all the squats?
The newest trailer begins with a narration by personal trainer Do Hyun-joong (Lee Jun-young) as he asks if anything in life can be easily changed. Our occupation? Our relationships? Our love lives? None of these things go the way for Lee Mi-ran (Jung Eun-ji) as she gets scolded at work, humiliated in the streets, and heartbroken by her lonesome.
However, Hyun-joong proclaims that one thing in life can be changed, and that is our bodies. He hands a crouched Mi-ran a flyer to his health club, and the initiation into his cult club begins. Alas, Mi-ran loves food and detests working out, so when Hyun-joong catches her trying to take a taxi for a ten minute walk, he shouts, “What the fit?”
Hyun-joong sticks to Mi-ran’s side throughout her fitness journey, yelling at her to keep going, and to her credit, she cries through the pain and continues. As she improves her health, things in her life outside the gym seem to change, too, including her love life. From Hyun-joong’s double entendre (“I can’t give up on you”) and constant invasion of personal space, it’s no wonder people start to question if something more is blossoming between them, but Mi-ran grits her teeth, asking him to stop talking about fitness that way.
Love, though, begins with eye contact, and all those crunches give our main couple plenty of time to flirt and smile. As Hyun-joong holds her hand, Mi-ran’s heart skips a beat, and she looks up at him in disbelief.
Co-directed by PDs Park Joon-soo (Gaus Electronics) and Choi Yeon-soo with scripts penned by Kim Ji-soo (Birthcare Center), KBS’s Pump Up the Healthy Love is slated for twelve episodes and holds its grand opening April 30 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.
