Yay! One more ‘marriage of convenience‘ drama! I’m totally signing up for it! MBC is bringing a romance drama titled Wife Of A 21st Century Prince and has confirmed IU and Byeon Woo Seok as the lead pair, with Noh Sang Hyun and Gong Seung Yeon completing the main cast.
IU recently starred in highly acclaimed When Life Gives You Tangerines, which I’m currently watching. It will be a change of genre this time as Wife Of A 21st Century Prince is a classic romantic comedy, set in an alternate version of Korea where it is a constitutional monarchy (something like Goong and The King 2 Hearts). She plays Sung Hee Joo, the second daughter of a family that owns the biggest conglomerate in Korea. But she is a commoner, as in, not from royal family background. This becomes an obstacle in her perfect life, so she decides to have a contract marriage with Byeon Woo Seok’s Lee Wan. He is the second son of the king, due to which he cannot have anything but his royal status. He has hidden away all his life but things begin to change once he meets Sung Hee Joo. This will be Byeon Woo Seok’s first drama since superhit Lovely Runner (although he had a cameo in No Gain, No Love), the show that made him super popular. I’m excited to see his performance here.
Noh Sang Hyun (Love In The Big City, Soundtrack 2) stars as the prime minister who comes from a prestigious political family. He is Lee Wan’s childhood friend and Sung Hee Joo’s senior from college. Gong Seung Yeon (The First Responders) plays a woman belonging to a family that has produced four queens. She truly believes that she will also become a queen one day. I’m hoping we will get two sets of OTPs.
Wife Of A 21st Century Prince will be directed by the PD of dramas like Alchemy Of Souls, What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim and Because This Life Is Our First. It plans to premiere in 2026 — wait what?! We’ll have to wait longer for this show I guess.
