Invincible VS: Why This Brutal Brawler is Xbox’s Must-Play Fighting Game
Move over, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, because Xbox just dropped a bloody gauntlet! While Marvel and Arc System Works are busy with their new anime-infused tag fighter, Skybound Studios and Quarter Up have cooked up something truly special for fans of gratuitous violence and super-powered brawling: Invincible VS.
After three wildly successful seasons of the animated Invincible series (and let’s be honest, seeing Omni-Man guest star in Mortal Kombat only whet our appetites), it was only a matter of time before these characters got their own full-fledged fighting game. And they’re not holding back! Imagine the lightning-fast, air-juggling combos you adore from Marvel vs. Capcom, but with the delightful, bone-shattering, viscera-splattering brutality of Mortal Kombat. The trailer for Invincible VS is already a crimson masterpiece, and it’s high time Xbox got its own dedicated fighting game to compete with the PlayStation/PC dominance.
So, who’s stepping into the ring for this glorious bloodbath? Here’s the revealed roster so far:
Invincible (Mark Grayson): Of course, the main man himself. He’s got the standard hero package: super strength, flight, and a rapidly developing ability to get absolutely annihilated and then somehow keep fighting. Expect a lot of flashy, mid-air maneuvers, probably involving him punching someone so hard they briefly become a red mist before reforming, slightly dazed. Let’s hope he’s practiced his “landing without causing a city-wide crater” technique.
Atom Eve (Samantha Eve Wilkins): The resident reality-warping powerhouse. She can create force fields, blast energy, and probably whip up a gourmet meal in the middle of a combo if she wanted to. Just don’t ask her to make you a sandwich while she’s busy disassembling a Viltrumite with atomic precision. Her special moves are likely to be vibrant and explosive, making for some truly dazzling (and dismembering) visuals.
Rex Splode (Rex Sloan): The guy who charges anything he touches into an explosive projectile. Think Gambit, but with a severe anger management problem and a penchant for turning inanimate objects into high-velocity shrapnel. He’s probably going to be a zoning nightmare, lobbing explosive debris from across the screen. Just try not to stand too close when he’s explaining his tactics; you might lose an ear.
Bulletproof (Aaron Bippity): The invulnerable strongman with flight. Basically, he’s the guy who’s going to stand there and take a beating while the others set up their gruesome tag combos. He’s probably got some satisfying counter-attacks and throws, perfect for when you just want to soak up damage and then politely return it with a concrete mixer to the face. He’s also the one who’ll probably remind everyone to file their damage reports.
(They only revealed Viltrumites so far)
Omni-Man (Nolan Grayson): The big bad himself, The worst dad in the galaxy and frankly, the reason most of us are here. We’ve seen him in Mortal Kombat, so we know he’s going to be a brutal, fast, and terrifying force. Expect a lot of ground-pounds, cinematic impalements, and perhaps even a move where he casually claps someone out of existence. He’s the guy who’ll make you question your life choices and then laugh while you’re still processing the pain.
Lucan: A fellow Viltrumite, known for his relentless combat prowess and utterly ruthless nature. He’s basically Omni-Man’s equally charming, equally destructive cousin. Expect a similar playstyle – all about overpowering the opponent with raw strength and speed, probably with a few more pointed insults thrown in for good measure. He’s the kind of guy who probably asks, “Are you sure you want to hit me with that?” right before he rips your arm off.
Thula: Another formidable Viltrumite warrior. She’s agile, lethal, and looks like she could carve a Thanksgiving turkey with her bare hands. Expect a more acrobatic and precise fighting style compared to the brute force of Omni-Man and Lucan, but no less deadly. She’s probably got some tricky mix-ups that’ll have you screaming at your screen, right before she pulls your spine out through your nose.
This game, Invincible VS, is clearly not for the faint of heart, but if you’re looking for a tag fighter that doesn’t shy away from the brutal consequences of super-powered brawls, it seems poised to deliver a glorious, gory good time. Just remember to bring a mop and a strong stomach.
