IDW Announces ‘Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees’ Sequel

The bear is back. IDW’s “cozy horror” tale of a serial killer ursine will continue in Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite Of Spring, a sequel to the graphic novel by the same creative team.

By day, Samantha Strong is a small-town bear, the cheery helpful owner of a hardware store. No one in the forest suspects her double life, and that she’s the one behind the recent string of nighttime murders in the big city.She has a moral code though (somewhat), and it prevents her from killing any of her neighbors. When a victim actually turns up, Samantha realizes she has a rival and the hunt begins.

That’s the plot of the first book, not the sequel. IDW’s press release does not go into details on what happens in the second book, it only pulls quotes from positive reviews. Maybe what Samantha’s up to now is too grizzly (see what I did there). The one thing they’ll let us look at is the cover to Issue 1, which goes on sale in July:

If you missed the first book, there are two ways to rectify that. The easiest way is to just go to Webtoon, because IDW put it and a few other comics from its library on the app for free reading last month — you just have to deal with the panels being reformatted for vertical screens. The more fancy-pants method is to wait for the Storybook Edition, a hardcover reprinting that will include the entire story plus the 10-page prequel (but not the sequel, it isn’t out yet). As for Rite of Spring, it’ll be six issues long and the first of them will go on sale July 9 at comics shops everywhere.
