Gong Myung has a last message for Kim Min-ha in Way Back Love

A new poster and teaser have dropped for TVING’s upcoming fantasy Way Back Love, where our tragically separated Gong Myung (Lovers of the Red Sky) and Kim Min-ha (Light Shop) are gifted with a special reunion for one week.

Recalling the hazy but happy memories of their past, the trailer begins in flashback when a teenaged Jung Hee-wan (Kim Min-ha) pushed for the April Fool’s joke of swapping names with her reluctant bestie Kim Ram-woo (Gong Myung). It’s all silly fun for Hee-wan, though it’s understandably confusing for everyone else at school. And it’s a head-scratcher for both Jung Geon-joo (Check In Hanyang) and Hee-wan’s dad Go Chang-seok (My Dearest Nemesis) who ask about their name tag switcheroo.

What isn’t so puzzling, of course, is that Hee-wan and Ram-woo are developing ~feelings~ and we’re treated to a fluffy cute sequence before trauma cruelly strikes our young friends. We then time-skip ahead to the present day, re-introducing us to the once spirited Hee-wan who became impassively withdrawn after Ram-woo’s fatal accident.

A persistent knock at Hee-wan’s door finally rouses her from bed and she’s shocked to see Ram-woo’s smiling face at her doorstep. Ignoring Hee-wan’s disbelief, Ram-woo continues his friendly chatter and even keeps on with their old high school prank, calling her by his name instead: “Long time no see. How have you been, Kim Ram-woo? I realized today is April Fool’s Day. Didn’t you miss me all this time?”

Hee-wan tries to make sense of what’s happening, stating, “But you died… four years ago…” It’s not explained in this teaser, but we’ve been told before that Ram-woo has returned as a grim reaper to foretell our heroine’s death. He thus turns serious as the sequence closes, this time addressing her by her real name to say: “Jung Hee-wan, there’s something I really need to tell you.”

Adapted from the novel A Week Before I Die by Seo Eun-chae, production for the series was led by a team of four with PD Kim Hye-young (Unicorn, Be Melodramatic) and PD Choi Hana co-directing, in addition to scripts by Song Hyun-joo and Jang In-jung. Following its initial screening at the Busan International Film Festival last year, the series will be coming to our smaller screens on April 3 next month.
