This song is such an earworm. The chorus has been playing in my head for days now, so I thought “maybe writing about will finally exorcise it”. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I really like the song but enough is enough. 😆
At a glance an e-sports themed anthem doesn’t seem to align with a drama blog, but NewJeans (뉴진스) is a Korean kpop girl group and the music video is about a Korean professional League of Legends player, soooo it’s somewhat related, in a roundabout way, ha. The song in itself is great… those soaring vocals! 😍 But combined with the video and the story it tells… epic! And what a story it is. A lower tier team of rejects that people didn’t expect to amount to much, but who somehow managed to claw their way to the 4th and final Korean seed to make it to the World Championships of 2022, where they went on to have a proper miracle run to the finals and did what no-one expected – won the title. The protagonist here is Deft (Kim Hyuk Kyu) and the video follows him through the years and different teams. Ten years of grinding with several disapointments. He was teamless and about to call it quits when DRX picked him up late 2021 and the rest, as they say, is history.
Hope they perform this live at the finals opening seremony. Oh and no, I don’t paly League, I just find it oddly relaxing to watch. 😂
